The whole picture was blue, yet the light, foggy blue of the sky and the dark, heavy blue of the water gave the whole painting a low gravity, as if the ocean is with the weight of the whole world while the sky was a feather of dream, floating above.

She felt it in her teeth. A pressure, low and rising. She turned to the window. And the sky split. A vertical tear, like lightning drawn slow and deliberate. Light poured out — but not golden, not white. It was blue. Deep blue. Ocean - at - night blue. Shapes moved behind it. Like something looking back. Then darkness again. Just like that. Power surged back. The lights flickered on. Traffic returned. A horn honked. Aria stood still, keys in hand, unsure if she'd screamed.

The Maine sky is a piercing, impossible blue. The Variable is dead. The Absolute remains. And for the first time, I’m not alone.

If anything, what I had seen on the TV seemed dull in comparison to what went on in the Iridescence Pack. Bundles of living flame were suspended in the air, casting their beautiful light on the Carnival below. The flames weren’t normal, flickering with orange and red light. They were a rich shade of blue, cerulean to be exact. Within those flames were different shades and colors, all stemming from the color blue. They crackled and snapped, sending cobalt embers into the air whenever something managed to catch itself in the flames.

The next morning, as Theo sat down for his homeschooling session with Teacher Mike and Mama Hazel, his mind was buzzing with curiosity and questions. With a sparkle in his eyes, Theo looked up at Teacher Mike and asked, "Why is the sky blue, Teacher Mike?" The blue light from the sun is scattered in all directions by the gases and particles in the atmosphere, making the sky above us look blue."

In the sky, there was no sun or moon but it was bright orange with yellow and gray clouds. It was truly beautiful.
