Floaters
A hundred and fifty British troops, outnumbered forty to one, resisted between 3,000 and 4,000 Zulu warriors who attacked the former trading post in wave after wave for twelve hours.
The water churned with sheep carcasses and floaters, but more and more, as the oil spread its greasy sheen over the basin, the undead swarmed onto the quays and jetties attacking defenders. Will felt for the flare gun thrust through his belt. For the plan to work, the water in the basin had to be covered in fuel oil. Bill Drummond, Alvin Pott and Nate Dunham were doing all they could at the pumping station; but there were over five acres of water and the pumps could empty the tanks only so fast.
