Bear looks at Ryder again. Before he can speak, Todd interrupts. "What kind of name is 'Bear'?" he asks with a snort. "Watch your attitude," Carla says with a glare that could stop a wild animal in its tracks. "Is it because he's as large as a bear?" I ask, eyeing him with interest. "No, it's because of his cuddly disposition," Carla snaps, eyes narrowing. "He's a real teddy bear," she adds sarcastically. Her beautiful face is turned up in a sneer and it isn't so beautiful anymore.

The case swung slightly ajar. Kael looked at the clasp on the floor. Then, at the open case, he saw a book. He picked up the book titled The Luck Bearers Vol. III, carefully opened it to the first page, and read the first line. The Luck Bearers are not mages. They are not warriors. They are not chosen by gods or blessed by divine hands. They are anomalies. Errors in the system. People around whom the laws of probability stop behaving, bending, warping, and rearranging in ways no one can predict, measure, or pull back under control.

I hadn't even finished a whole row yet. Some stuff is repeated but this book is by far my favorite. It's solely about bear shifters. Bear shifters are the most loyal type of shifter. They would lay down their lives for the ones they are to protect without a single thought. Thats terrifying. I don't want Dom to die because I might. Even though he would probably fight me on it.

The book was about a bear and a rabbit who were trying to determine which of them could stay awake longer. He read it with the same attention he gave to surgical literature. I was at the drafting table with my back partly toward him and I kept my eyes on the page in front of me, the developmental series sketches, but I was not drawing. I was listening to Tristan Cross read a picture book about a bear and a rabbit in the specific tone he used for things that required doing correctly. After the first book he set it down and picked up the second. This one was about a small girl who was afraid of thunder and the grandmother who told her the thunder was just the sky moving furniture around.

Somewhere in that darkness, branches cracked — heavy footsteps moving through underbrush. Her light flickered across the yard — and caught movement. Something massive moved between the trees. She froze, breath trapped in her throat. Then it stepped into the moonlight. A bear. Huge. Golden-brown fur catching silver light, muscles rippling beneath it. Its eyes — gods, its eyes — glowed faintly amber. Intelligent. Watching her. The flashlight slipped from her fingers and clattered against the stones. The bear huffed, and the sound was almost… human.

Or all 3 of them would be dead by now. “Holy fuck…” Lance covered his nose and walked close to the dead bear’s body and examined it, “What on earth was that! Is this a natural inhabitant of this forest?” “There are rumors about them.” Said Damien darkly. Then he looked back at Baron, snapping: “These bears never leave their cave! What is this one doing here?!” A hint of panic passed across Baron’s eyes, “I—I don’t know…” “Are there more of them?!” “I don’t know…probably…”
