Nicoli went and let go. “Oh?” Ana looked over. She could see the pictures. But the sight didn’t hold as much interest as something else became noticeable. It’s Nicoli. Ana realized the new smell. It must have been because they were so close that she could notice. But it was intense and made her head spin. “The book’s full of them.” So Nicoli went and flipped a page. It revealed a different bear. “This one here’s a sloth bear.” And he pointed to it. “And then this over here is a sun bear. Oh, and this is-”

Jeremiah requested, he almost forgot to say please. “Yes, Jeremiah, I can sense a strong mana still lingering in the bear’s body, I can check it for you if you want.” Hence, before it went to the bear, it warned its master, “But please be quiet, I don't want the bear to suddenly wake up and tear my precious pages.” The two priests nodded at the same time. Although Jeremiah thought, it would be a good idea if the bear suddenly awakened and tore off Armadale into pieces. He wondered whether the book would become less annoying with fewer pages left.

Instead, he padded towards me with his typical slow and deliberate movements. As it drew closer, I saw that the bear was holding something in its maw. It dropped the object at my feet and I saw that it was a small, leather-bound book. The bear looked upwards at me, its eyes seeming to bore into my soul. And then, in a motion so almost human, it nodded its head. I stared at it in amazement, really not sure what my next move was. But then I looked down at the book, and with an eruption of clarity inside of me, this feeling suddenly made much sense.

"A bear shifter?” “Surprised?” Marcus plucked the book from her unresisting hands and flipped over to a page he seemed to know well. It depicted the love interest’s first transformation into a bear, the first time he honestly bared himself wholly to the female lead. “Bears are so rare in these stories, and that's what drew me to it. It's almost impossible to find stories about anything other than wolves or foxes. And, well, the love interest in this one had a sort of, albeit morally dubious, happy ending with his True Mate. I guess I have a soft spot for it." Vivienne arched an eyebrow. "A morally dubious happy ending, you say?"

Feigning concern, I stopped abruptly and warned, "We can't go any further. The bear is nursing her cubs up ahead. If we intrude, it'll see us as a threat and attack." Bonnie looked unconcerned, even excited. It was clear she lacked even basic wilderness knowledge. She scoffed. "Kate, you're too timid. What's there to be afraid of? This is a rare sight. Of course, we have to capture it on camera. Right, Damon?" Damon gave her a doting smile. "This is why we came, after all. We can't miss it." I forced myself to explain calmly, "Nursing animals are highly territorial. If provoked, they won't hesitate to attack. The consequences could be deadly."

Bloody demonic ass-wipe, how dare he grin at me! “I am not stupid, demon bear here was dying not 2 days ago, now he walks around fit as a fiddle. Explain that to me!” I said pointing to the grinning asshole in the armchair. “I am not a demon bear!” He goes to say before standing, a low rumble coming from his chest. I pull my finger back at the sound. My face falling slack, my body lightly trembles in fear with the uncertainty of what is to come. Sure, not demonic, just an empty tummy.

“Look, do you want the pups or not?” “Yes, I do. Tell me how to get my prize’s back.” Burican smiled. “Follow me.” The bear told him. His beast was angry with him. How dare he turn his back on his clan. He kept fighting with his human side. “You can’t do this!” “They are innocent cubs.” His beast yelled at him. “They aren’t my cubs or part of my clan, so they are not my concern.” Bear scoffed at his beast. He walked in front of Burican and Max showing them the hidden entrance to the clan bunker.

City-bred kids rarely did. We'd caught sight of the bear emerging from the woods, picking its heavy steps and tracing our scents. It stopped to sniff now and then. Just like we wolves, it had the super sense of scent which was obviously what led it here — where it's possible next meals could be found. The bear's being was made of a red fire that burned underneath its low-but-constantly-burning fur like molten magma. It resembled a huge walking ember. It left huge drops of ashes on its trails and let out a deep bass growl whenever he sniffed the air.

The weird thing is, Bear seemed to want me, the way he was in that place, the way he calls me little lamb, but he hasn’t even tried yet. “Let’s leave.” Bear gets up and walks out, holding the elevator for us. Stepping in, I find myself wedged between them both, and it just makes me smile. The day is spent, as they said, shopping. Walking around the bookstore, I pick up books and read the back of them. I need a new book; I’ve read the others already. “Interesting read, little kitten?” I hear Gunner behind me. Turning, I smile at him. “I don’t know. I haven’t read it yet,” I mutter, my eyes glancing down, but his hand grips my chin and stops me.

"Brook is playing a dangerous game with the Bates syndicate because he lacks the teeth to hold his own perimeter. If he imagines using your old flames will fracture our pack law, he vastly underestimates my resolve." Brook watched us from the edge of the blood-altar, his warm, fake smile failing to hide the sour scent of his rising panic. He didn't possess a single ounce of genuine affection for Corrie Bates; quite the opposite, his inner wolf despised her elite posturing, especially knowing her bloodline had once been entangled with the Alpha King.
