“Proof of my manliness.” I hugged the bear to my chest, shaking my head. “You’re ridiculous.” “And yet you’re smiling.” I was. I hadn’t even realized it until he pointed it out. We spent the next hour wandering through the carnival—playing games, eating funnel cake, daring each other onto rides. For the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn’t thinking about Sophie or Alex or the chaos waiting for me tomorrow. I was just… here with him. As the night wound down, we found ourselves sitting on a bench near the edge of the square, the teddy bear between us.

But now I am a big girl, I know I can do this and I am going to enjoy it. I do not enjoy it. I almost throw up during the ride and scream all through. "Hey put me down!" I punched Killian lightly in the chest. "Sorry, kids but this bear is mine." "Aww! Don't be so selfish Mister!" "Yeah! She doesn't belong to you, she's ours!"

“In fact, why don’t you run out now and get them.” “No,” Barry said, “we’ll figure something out for tonight. How about we put Freddie in the laundry room and get back to the party?” “Can’t he come to the party with me?” Abby said, not letting go of the dog and looking up at him with pleading eyes. “He’s just a baby, Abby,” Barry said, “and I think he needs a nap. Besides, it’s time for the jumping castle and Freddie definitely can’t go on that.” Abby pouted but agreed with him and kissed the top of the dog’s head before getting to her feet. There wasn’t a lot of room for our bear to run here without going beyond Jack’s territory, but there were enough streets to circle a few times before we’d get bored.
