Shadows dance and take shape as they burst from the woods, grabbing wolves and throwing them away from us. Roots snap out of the ground like spears, launching themselves toward the wolves who hadn’t moved closer. Several wolves are flung away, vines latching on and burning their skin as they rip them off of Kai, before anyone even understood what was happening.
