Caitlin Paine sped down the West Side Highway, determined to reach the Cloisters before they closed. Her mind spun, as she reflected on all the troubles that were besieging Scarlet—troubles that no teenager should have. Scarlet was changing, Caitlin was sure of it. She was no mere human anymore, and each day, she was getting worse. Caitlin sensed that she was becoming what she, Caitlin, had once been herself: a vampire.

Refusing to be broken, Brook snarled, "The Bayzee leader uses cloaking magic. I will hunt him down myself to balance the ledger." Debora’s smile went completely cold. "Make sure you don't become the prey." She turned her attention to Lucien, her eyes dropping to his heavily scarred thighs. "I consulted the flesh-weavers in the old country, Lucien. They believe a blood-transfusion from a purebred captive might restore your full Lycan speed." Lucien tapped his knee, his voice dropping an octave. "I have broken enough weavers to know their promises are hollow. My seat remains steady."

“I wanted normal. A boyfriend. Stupid things like Ferris wheel kisses and tattoos and greasy food. But I’m not normal. I never was. And in three days, I’ll be even less.” Her eyes welled with tears, spilling before she could wipe them away. She leaned against him, pressing her forehead into his chest. “I’m scared, Valerius. Scared of dying. Scared of turning. I’m scared of me. Scared of who I’ll become. Scared that there won’t be anything left of the Chloe my mom raised. That all she’ll see is… a monster.” Her voice cracked on the last word, and her shoulders shook.

With trembling hands, I opened the book and began to read. The words on the pages spoke of a time long ago, when the world was in chaos and darkness reigned. It told of a powerful force that had emerged from the depths of the earth, granting supernatural abilities to a select few. These individuals were chosen to become the guardians of nature, protectors of the balance between light and dark. But as the power grew, so did the greed and ambition of some who possessed it. They sought dominance over others, using their abilities for personal gain and control. In their quest for power, they lost sight of their purpose and became twisted, losing their humanity and embracing the darkness within.

I don't even bother looking at the clock, Mia already said it's too early. Mia! My mind runs fast. What's happened in just 24 hours or less? I lay back in my bed facing the ceiling and the thoughts that I can no longer run away from fill my mind, and almost my body from the power they held. The supernatural world might exist! I am no longer just human. I'm more. The world holds so much more mystery than we might think. That I might think. If I'm this "Blessed", what else is out there? Werewolves? Witches? Ghosts? Vampires?

She picked it up and was about to keep it on the shelf when the title caught her attention. “Life of the Supernatural World,” Saraya read and paused. She stared at the book for a long moment before sitting on the floor and folding her legs beneath her. She started reading without realizing how much time passed. The book was about all supernatural kinds — vampires, werewolves, fairies, witches, demons, etc. Saraya, who was reading about werewolves, recalled Raf telling her that he was the Hybrid King.

If I had met her in Greystone Falls, I'd have doubted if she was a witch. "Like I said, this is Eclipse’s Book of Records. It holds the history of every supernatural being that has ever been here," she explained. "You mean each book holds a record of every monster who’s been here?" I asked, my eyes darting toward the shelves. "Yes," she replied and clicked her tongue. "But can you stop calling us monsters? I'd prefer it if you addressed us as supernatural beings," she added with a smile. Supernatural beings, my foot! They were all monsters to me, with powers no human could ever possess.

Was it a deserted baby wailing for his mother? The lifeless tree grumbled, and a hefty book popped out from the branches, straight onto her lap. “Curse of the Sapphire – History of the Demonic witches,” she read the title and stared at the bracelet on her right wrist. Red as a demon’s eyes. It stopped breathing fire, now it pierced her flawless skin, giving her bruises she might remember for a lifetime if she survived the ongoing battle. Can humans even co-exist with the supernatural creatures? The book started with a question, which Cassy always had in mind but till date, she didn’t dare to dig the answer.

If she dies out of fright, she wouldn’t have her body. It didn’t take long before their senses started coming back. Zheira catches her breath and wiped the mixture of sweat and tears in her face; however, the sight of her soul becoming tangible was the most horrifying scene she’d ever seen. She’s emitting a reddish light as her flesh solidified. Her soul laughed, amusing herself with the sight of her newly-made body.

Tonight, my parents called us to prepare all of us in a great battle of werewolves, Lycans and us, demons and vampires. I was lying on my bed to understand what just happened to me in the garden. I can't believe that I turned into a monster with elongated horns, lewd eyes, Piercy's long tail, and pointed sharp fangs. I thought the demon wasn't real and they only appeared in movies but I was wrong. They're not only fantasy creatures but they're real and I was one of them.
