KATE stood quietly at the door to her baby brother’s room, watching the small figure on the bed breathe softly. King had finally fallen asleep, clutching his little teddy bear close to his chest. As usual, before drifting off, he had asked, “When are Mommy and Daddy coming back?” And like every other night since the incident, she had whispered, “Soon,” before kissing his forehead and pulling the blanket up to his chin.

“Look, Mommy! That one’s a horse.” I smiled softly as I stepped into the room. “And that one is a penguin,” I told them as I stopped beside the bed. “Can I join you? I’ll tell you a bedtime story while we watch the show.” Becky immediately scooted closer to Naomi to make space for me. “Here, Daddy.”

“Good girl. Now close your eyes, and go to sleep.” “But… what if the bad wolves come to get me?” I whispered timidly. She tucked my golden brown hair gently behind my ear. “There are no bad wolves sweetie. I had left the room decorations to Mia and I must say she did a great job. Liam hopped onto his bed while Melanie curled up under her blanket, her bunny tucked under her chin. "Just thirty two?" She cheered. "She's just making thirty two next month." "It's unbelievable." They all sat sinked in on the serious as they ate there two boxes of pizza. Vivana was the first one to fall asleep then Mickey leaving Jessica still watching. When the episode ended, she turned to gaze at the two sleeping. Scooped away from them both carrying Mickey in both her hands with no effort taking him to his bedroom and kissing him goodnight. She headed back down stairs yet again doing the same thing. She carried Vivana up to the bedroom that was supposed to be hers. Got her into the covers as she was sound asleep.

The rain beats against the bedroom window in a steady beat. I sat on the edge of the bed, a storybook open in my hand, while Max snuggled under a blanket with a picture of his favorite Superman and his stuffed superman too . His brown hair was messy, and his cheeks flushed warm after a full day of play. But... this boy, as always, never ran out of energy. “Come on, Max,” I flipped through the book's pages. “It's getting late. You should go to bed. Mommy have to work tomorrow.”
