“Yes. Get Dominique and Makayla out of there.” Nicholas changed back into wolf form and howled. He and his people ran out into the clearing before the barn. I went around the back and jumped into the nearest tree. I jumped from tree to tree and saw several wolves coming out of the back of the barn as several others came out the front. I went to the back. I was going to take those wolves out so they couldn’t circle Nicholas. I jumped down and onto the back of one of the wolves. He snarled as the other wolf realized I was on his back.

He smells a little like a wet dog from our fight with the spider horde. "Chief Wolfpaw, do you think more magical creatures will come in search of the luna lilies," I ask, knowing the answer is most likely yes. "Of course they will come. The trees whisper to each other. You can't hear it. But us werewolves can. The return of the lilies has already been gossiped about and carried on the wind through the trees. The whole forest knows by now and it is up to us to protect it," Chief Wolfpaw replies as he changes into a werewolf with grey hairs dispersed along his back.

I shed my coat, and the moonlight guided me, casting just enough illumination to navigate the uneven terrain. "Julie? Where are you?" I called out. Silence engulfed the forest, making me feel even more isolated. A twig snapped behind me, and I spun around to be met with an intimidating sight: a massive wolf, more significant than any I'd ever seen. Its sharp canines glinted in the moonlight, reminding me eerily of werewolves from the stories I'd read. The wolf's gaze seemed calculating, almost as if it were studying me. As it began advancing, I took hesitant steps backward, fear coursing through my veins.

Her body trembled from exhaustion. Yet she forced herself forward. Then she heard it. A growl. Low. Dangerous. Close. Seraphina froze. The sound came again. This time from behind her. Slowly, she turned. Her breath caught. Three enormous wolves stood between the trees. Rogues. Their fur was matted with dirt and blood. Their eyes glowed with predatory hunger. The largest stepped forward. A scar ran across his muzzle. His lips peeled back. Showing rows of sharp teeth.

Nora pointed at a reddish stain on a tree trunk and Damien tucked her behind him immediately he picked up the fresh odour of the blood. “It is blood! But if it's that fresh, then—” She didn't complete her sentence when Damien pulled her to the ground and an arrow flew over their heads, going into a tree trunk nearby. Before they could recover from that, werewolves ran out from behind the trees, yelling as they came closer. It was almost as if the wolves had been expecting them…as if they had been informed beforehand.

They were sending a wolf. I pushed harder, ignoring the branches whipping my face, the rocks cutting into my feet. Snap. The sound of bones breaking. A low, guttural growl. He was close. I risked a glance over my shoulder. A massive, sandy-colored wolf was tearing through the trees behind me. He was fast—faster than me. His eyes were locked on my back, predatory and hungry. He gained on me with terrifying speed. I saw a tree up ahead with low branches. If I could climb it...

At such moments, the werewolf shuddered and seemed to come to his senses, but did not stop. Before dawn, wolves began to appear among the fleeing undead, with each moment their number increased. Huge beasts confidently pushed back the lifeless creatures and surrounded their king. When the first rays of the sun barely made their way through the tangled branches, the trees suddenly parted and a wide clearing opened up. Yarsi took a few more steps, came out into the open space and stopped. Behind him, the wolves grumbled displeasedly, they were in no hurry to come out from under the trees.
