Beneath A Marble Sky Novels & Stories

Bianca asked, clutching Amara’s hand while Aegis sat firmly on her feet to keep her steady amidst the noise. "In a way, my love," Amara whispered. "It’s made of the thoughts and the sweat of people. It’s a dream made of stone." They climbed to a safe observation platform on the tenth floor. The city stretched out below them, a patchwork of history and chaos. Emiliano knelt beside Lorenzo, pointing toward the base of the crane. "See the way the crane is anchored, Lorenzo? It can reach the clouds, but only because it is bolted into the bedrock. If you want to reach high, you must first go deep."

She barked, "Is that how you apologize? Bow down!" I took a deep breath and bowed deeply, saying sorry once more in front of Jack. Jack, looking pleased as punch, waved it off. "Marvin, I'm totally fine. No need for all that, really." Hannah did not even spare me a glance, her back to me as she said nonchalantly, "You'll need to find another place to stay for a while. Come back once Jack's better." I grabbed my suitcase and walked away without looking back. Just then, my phone buzzed with a call from my leader.

The city hummed beneath the cold gray sky, its cacophony of sounds muted by the sleek glass windows of Damian Cross’s office. Sage Whitmore stood by the window, arms crossed, staring out at the sprawling skyline below. The office was empty, save for her and Damian, who had been eerily quiet for the past half hour. His towering presence behind her made it impossible to ignore his gaze, though she wasn’t about to turn around and meet it.

“Because this place has excellent murder-vibes.” “Samantha,” Lucien warned. “Right. Focus. Less sarcasm. More survival.” We burst onto the roof. Paris exploded into view—wet stone, fractured lights, the city stretched below like a fallen constellation. And there—right in the center of the rooftop—stood the dark. Silas stepped from behind a chimney, black duster stirring like smoke that had learned to walk. Stone turned to sand beneath his boots. “Iteration 2.1,” he murmured.

Two hours later, the final siren of the night wailed, signaling the end of the harvest. Marcus utilized the Liquid Silver jammer, masking his biometric data from the Spire's internal sensors, and began the agonizing, vertical climb back up the ventilation shafts. Every pull of his massive arms sent flares of fire through his bruised lats and torn triceps. He was operating on pure, mechanical willpower. When he finally slipped through the maintenance panel into his quarters, the artificial sky outside the panoramic window was already a soft, glowing violet. Morning had arrived in Neo-Pangaea.

"But they never forgive Omegas who rise, do they?" Outside, the sky crackled - not thunder this time, but a faint flare of light pulsing over the distant sky. Mama Mariah's jaw set. She leaned forward, folding the parchment carefully. "If you're still out there, Tia... we will need your strength soon." She blew out the lantern beside her. Dusk crept slowly over the hills, painting the thatch roofs in pale gold. A faint mist still clung to the ground, curling through the open window of Mama Mariah's hut.

Jack nearly fell from the rail as the breath struck his blood. Kneel, little cub. Jack's eyes flashed. "No." The word was small compared to the sky. It held anyway. Fenrir's eye turned toward him. Then come closer and say it where I can taste the lie. A bridge of moon-shadow extended from the sky to the top of Sterling Tower. Not an invitation. A leash pretending to be a road. Marcus's voice came over comms. "Do not walk on the creepy sky tongue." Haley, from Nightingale, said, "Seconded. Never trust infrastructure that comes out of a mouth."

“Well, sorry to burst your little bubble, Marcus, but I’m not hanging out with you. I’m a very busy man.” “Come on, man,” he whined. “Let’s have some fun.” “Bye, Marcus.” I ended the call. Typical Marcus. He always acted like everyone had the luxury of dropping everything to go on vacation. I lay back down on the bed, my head was pounding badly. I really needed sleep. Tomorrow, I’d deal with everything. Work. Meetings. And my search for Jade Firefly. **** The bomb sat on the boy’s chest. Red numbers blinked in the dim room.

On the broken screen, Specter’s face was gone. Replaced by a message: PROJECT ATLAS FINAL PHASE INITIATED Outside, the ground shook. The sky cracked with light. And somewhere above them, Morrow was no longer asleep She was rising. Maria looked up into the burning sky and realized the truth the strongest one of all had just chosen a side… And no one knew whose side it was.

The marble floors glittered from being polished, free of cracks and full of dazzling rainbows that caught the light. Not only were the pillars crack free and wrapped in vines of white roses, but a mural now shimmered across the sloped planes of the ceiling. A bull whose coat was paler than snow, standing atop a dark pelt. Even with the blood that covered it, the beauty and wonder of the night sky still shone through.
