Bunny was tucked under her left arm, Barbie in her right hand, and a small bag full of snacks sat on her lap like provisions for war.
“Mommy,” she said without turning around, “does Daddy’s boat have royal stairs?”
“All stairs can become royal if the owner is delusional enough.”
Poppy turned, her green eyes widening. “Am I delusional?”
“You’re four. It’s still legal.”
“The child laws in this house are far too loose,” Salma muttered from Poppy’s right side, wearing a wide-brimmed hat with the medicine bag in her lap.
Poppy lifted Barbie. “Barbie says she needs her own room.”
