His eyes looked hungry when he saw me. "Come here Michael," he said quietly. "Tonight we finish your penance properly." I walked up the steps until I stood right in front of him. The altar felt cold under my hands when I touched it. Father Elias opened the Bible and turned to a page he had marked. He read the verse in his deep calm voice. "Romans 6 verse 13. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness."

I demand, holding it until he takes hold of it. “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” Thane reads the first chapter, halting as he stares at me. “Go on” I say, pointing towards the bible.

Grace said, breaking the silence. I chuckled at her words. If this was her attempt to make me laugh, she had succeeded. "Cedric and good don't belong in the same sentence," I said bitterly. Grace shook her head. "He's just complicated, but he's a really good person. He saved my life." My curiosity was piqued. "What do you mean he saved you?" Grace bowed apologetically. "I'm sorry, my lady, but I'm not allowed to say."

Especially when it came to me. "Nice work, Kayla. This is an improvement." He said as he handed me my paper. Shocked by his comment, I looked down on my paper. I got a B? I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I thought I did bad on this test, but all along I was doing the right thing for the most part. I was really happy with this grade. Some people might say a B is nothing, but for me in maths, it was a big deal. It was a big improvement from my original Ds and Es.
