"Before I stop being polite." The tall Viper looked like he wanted to argue but one of his friends grabbed his arm. "Come on man. It's not worth it." They backed away slowly then turned and walked off into the growing darkness. Maya watched until they disappeared around a corner. Her hands were shaking and she shoved them in her pockets so no one would see. "You okay?" Blackwood asked again. "I'm fine." Maya looked at her bike. At the neighborhood around her. At the six bikers standing there like they were waiting for something. "I just need to fix my starter."

He’s got this puzzled look on his face that ends when his eyebrows fold inward. Piper relaxes onto her heels, then turns to face the guy, her arms planted around my waist. “Bryce. I know he's not really into parties, but I managed to convince him by pestering Ryker. I don't know why, but even though I get annoyed by that guy, I always ask him for favors, like this time, asking his friend to come to the farewell party. I was so happy that he did it. Some people think Ryker is my boyfriend now because we're often together, especially when going home. If I'm not with Rowela, he's the one who takes me home on his motorcycle. So, naturally, the girls who have a crush on him raise their eyebrows whenever they see me with him, but I don't care. We're not a couple, and we're not even friends, just classmates.

Felix shook, his breath coming in shallow gasps. “Yes, Alpha. Yes, I swear, never again, Alpha,” he stammered, the words tripping over each other in his panic. I let go. Then louder, I snapped, “The rest of you, get out of my sight.” The other bikers, who’d been loitering near the edge of the clearing, scattered immediately, relief written in every hurried step. They didn’t need to be told twice.

I told myself that maybe, just maybe, I was overreacting but all it took to clear that out was small talk with one of the bikers. “Hey.” I stopped the nearest biker, that passed. He was drunk obviously, but he knew better than to sip out of of stupid jar the moment he stood in front of me. “Where's Vivienne?” “Who?” He slurred, his face morphing and holding nothing but confusion. “I have no idea who….” “Vivienne!” I snarled in a low growl as I grabbed a hold of his shirt. “My wife. Where is she?”

Did they know each other? “Do you know those guys?” I asked, my voice shaking. “Not anymore, but I used to,” Xavier muttered before putting his helmet on and getting on his bike. I quickly wrapped my arms around him because it looked like my boyfriend was hurrying to get out of there and away from that car, even with a police officer present.
