The ladies all giggle and Julie stands, handing a new bookmark to each of us. "Yes. We figured we'd get you ones that suited you a little better." she says. The new one is dark blue with gold lettering that says 'Real men read dirty books'. I smile and look over at Ev who's showing Harper his excitedly. "These are great. Thank you." I say just as Bri nudges me. "Oh! Tell them your joke, love!" Harper says excitedly. Ev rolls his eyes before addressing the group.

The creature tilted its head, lips peeling away from bloody teeth in something that looked like a smile. “Run…” it rasped—voice broken, guttural, barely human. The sound of it slithered down her spine like ice water. Then the last word hissed out, sharp and deliberate— “…Bambiiii, run.” It took a second for her world to turn dark.

She raises an eyebrow and shakes her head, “They have remarkable hearing, and I know they’re curious.” She gestures for a book, and he grabs one, she opens it and places the carved bookmark into it and closes it again. He nods, and takes the book back handing her the bookmark. He runs a finger over part of it and wags a finger thoughtfully, then goes for that flat topped chest again and rifles through it, she shrugs and keeps working.

"And I also know... you like to check my things when I'm asleep." Crack. The tip of the pencil Arka was holding snapped. The guy stood up in one swift motion, grabbed Bima's wrist, and pulled him roughly towards book aisle number 700—the most secluded area not reached by surveillance cameras. Once they reached the shadows of the large shelves, Arka pinned Bima against the cold wall. He placed both his hands on either side of Bima's head, completely trapping the guy's movement. Arka's sharp, masculine cologne now enveloped Bima.

Unbeknown to her, was the figure that made its way out of the shadows behind the shelves carefully waiting until she disappeared to go where she last stood. He picked up the book Iori had just put down. Slowly flipped through it until the paper Iori put there fell off to the floor. He picked it up with a smirk reading through it. Then without the slightest hesitation, he tore it in half. He put back the first one into the book and took the other with him still smiling like the cat that ate the cream.

And with that, he swooped the sleepy Rita into his arms in a princess carry as his sad, lonely figure walked away. [Meanwhile] BAM! The loud banging of a book as it collided with the floor was heard before a startling fumble over it followed as an unknown personnel scrambled to pick it up. “How….” the unknown personnel started, her long black hair cascading hazardously to her back as she stood up from her bent position—book in hand, “Does he remember us?!”

I don’t try touching it again. Closing the box, I approach the shelves. I take out the book closest to me. Brushing off the dust, I realize it’s a strategy book, written in delicate penmanship. The paper is fragile, but the tome is bound with great care. The other side of the shelf seems to have hard-bound journals. It’s like an entire couple’s life secured in one small room. I hear a scraping sound, and I turn my head to see Robert picking up a stack of small portraits from one of the iron boxes in the corner.

I think it's for entertainment. I pass each column of shelves, eyeing those past-dusty books that have been written with a feather. "Did you find something?" I ask Benny. We both went separate ways. I'm sure that Benny is reliable enough to actually help us. "I got this book," he holds it up for me to see. "There's a huge family tree on some of the pages. It's also written." He walks to my side, handing the big book, but the book immediately touches the hard wood floor.

I pick up both empty plates, “I’ll be right back, just heading down to the kitchen to drop these off.” “Ok, but hurry back. Patrick said he finished ‘Roses and Thorns’, and you have it in your possession!” Benji beams at me as she grabs my bag from the corner of the couch and starts rummaging through it for the book like a child searching for a piece of candy in their grandmother’s purse. ‘Another one of your book club bookworms…’ Ember snorts in my mind, but she’s wagging her shaggy thick tail in adoration.
