I had something stronger: purpose.
When I reached the west garden, I almost stopped breathing.
A tall, dark horse stood there between the trees. No rope. No saddle. Just strong legs, wild eyes, and a thick black mane. It looked straight at me.
"You came," I whispered.
It lowered its head.
I climbed on without fear, wrapping my hands into its mane.
"Take me to him," I said.
The horse took off like it already knew the way.
