The Black Wolf
It didn’t behave like any liquid I’d ever seen.
It hissed as it touched the ground, thickening into a tar-like sludge. It writhed and moved, slithered, like it had a mind of its own. A sudden bubble burst at its center, releasing a foul smoke that twisted into the air with a shriek I felt rather than heard.
Then, as if it had never been, the black ooze dissolved, vanished into the stone like it had never existed at all. I stood still, heart pounding, the remnants of the stench still clinging to my lungs.
