The smell of blood, even in this rain is heavy. Another of my men falls, but we take five of theirs, but they keep on pressing. Ten more rush out from the trees to join the fray. A bright flash of lightning hits a tree nearby, cutting it in half. Then a ghostly howl is heard and another flash of lightning brings a cloaked figure and a wolf into view. ~ Tina POV ~ "Ma'am, another drink?" The cocktail waitress leaned over my shoulder, her voice cutting through the casino's relentless chiming and clicking. I didn't look up from the blackjack table. Couldn't. My hands were shaking too badly, and I needed them steady for the next hand. "Whiskey. Double." The cards blurred in front of me. Twenty-three thousand down in two hours. Jesus Christ, Tina. What are you doing?

The witches closed in, their laughter echoing like a chorus of nightmares. Something inside Aqua snapped. A surge of dark energy, unfamiliar and terrifying, welled up within her. She felt her pendant grow hot against her skin, the clear crystal turning black as smoke. The air around her crackled with raw power as she turned back towards the attackers, her fear morphing into a blinding rage.

“Bingo.” I set my eyes on it and walk right through, emerging into a narrow hall. The blue light glows above me, reflecting off the metal bars of an old-fashioned jail cell. Something glows from within, and I have to move a few steps closer before I realize it’s a UV heat lamp, much like one you’d put in a reptile cage. “Dina,” I say, seeing her outline huddled against the back of the cell, shielding her face from the UV light. She looks up and the skin on her cheeks chars.

Whitney’s voice rang out. She rose from her seat gracefully, her calculating smirk etched firmly on her face. “I suggest we play a little game,” she said, her voice sweet yet laced with mischief. Lucas perked up beside me, intrigued. “What kind of game?” he asked. Whitney held up a hand, signaling the attendants nearby. Within seconds, a deck of shimmering Moon Cards appeared. My stomach twisted. “Moon Cards,” she said simply, holding the deck up. “Partners draw cards in pairs, and their combined points determine the winner of each round. The losers, of course, have to submit to reasonable punishment from the winners.”
