The sofa looked as though it had spent the last hour fighting a wild beast and lost badly. Wood, glass, torn fabric, scattered papers… there wasn’t a single corner of the room that had escaped the damage. Sylas slowly looked around before lowering his gaze to the untouched cup of coffee in his hand. He searched for somewhere to put it. He kept walking. Room 214 was on the second floor of an older building where the halls were too narrow and the air smelled like dust and wet stone. He paused outside the seminar room. Through the leaded glass door, he could hear voices. Laughter. A debate. Someone quoting Rilke. He stepped inside. The room had tall windows with cold light spilling through. Old wooden desks arranged in a rough circle. Books piled on a side table. The professor — a thin man with a coffee stain on his sweater and a gaze like a crow — nodded to him without interrupting the discussion.

It was not until I rolled my quilt up that she finally realized something was off. "What are you doing, Luna?" she asked. "The counselor approved my room change. I'll be moving to the room next door," I replied with a smile. Right then, three girls from the next dorm walked in while grinning. They said, "We're roommates now, Luna! We'll help you carry your belongings." I smiled gratefully and said, "Thanks. Dinner's on me tonight." I picked up my belongings and was ready to leave. I follow Jupiter to where my dad is holding out a key, and I can tell that even he is surprised that we'll be sharing a room. Jupiter and I locate our room, which is at the end of the lodge, on the ground floor. The room is pretty spacious with two queen-size beds, a panel heater and an ensuite. The carpet feels thick beneath my feet, and each bed has an electric blanket. It's so cozy and warm, compared to the harsh chill blowing around outside.
