The air beneath Black Hollow was colder than I ever imagined. The walls of the tunnel swallowed light, echoes bouncing off rough stone. We moved slowly, every sound magnified: breathing, scrapes of boots, the drip of unseen water.
John held the torch ahead, its flicker barely pushing back the darkness. Sarah and Daniel flanked David, steadying him. I brought up the rear, scanning every ridge and shadow.
The deeper we went, the thicker the air felt. Pressure, like lungs trying to exhale through trapped ribs. The symbols etched on walls glowed faint blue under the torchlight. The spiral mark the same that had branded David and nearly turned the ritual crawled through the stone
