He was met with an unfamiliar ceiling, and his body felt heavy, as if weighed down by an invisible force. His senses were heightened, and every sound, every smell, was amplified. He tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over him, forcing him back onto the cold, damp floor. His wolf, once a silent companion, now spoke to him in a voice that echoed in his mind.

I felt my body pressed against something soft, not the cold ground of the cave. I stood in front of my mother, backing toward the bed step by step. Staring at the widening crack in the doorway, sweat covered my forehead as I felt completely helpless without any weapon. Then the door was violently forced open, with the bottom of the wardrobe making a terrible screeching sound like metal on train tracks. A pair of dirty boots stepped into the room. "Did you think blocking the door would save you? I don't have the patience for games." The man smiled crookedly, his disgusting gaze scanning the room. I froze in place, staring at the gleaming knife in his hand, its cold light reflecting off his filthy knuckles.

She even offered to help give my husband 'massages' at night. Their clothes were entangled on the ground as their undressed bodies moved under the covers. The atmosphere was steamy in bed. How were they not afraid? Well, it was only normal that they were not worried about anything because I was 'blind'. I opened my eyes in the dark. It felt so disgusting that I wanted to throw up, but I pinched myself to hold it back. They had no idea that I had just been joking when I claimed to be blind. They started to go about their filthy ways when they heard that I could not see.

yelled the man I presume is Jace. Blind Guy caresses my body with his one eye as he starts from my chest and works his way down to my legs where his gaze stops and fixates on the junction of my thighs. I begin to tremble in fear as his words start to make sense in my head. NO! I need to get out of here. Without shoes I won't be as fast, but if I can just get some leverage I may be able to outrun them and find a place to hide. My fingers clench in the dirt as an idea strikes me. Without time to think this through, I squeeze the dirt in my hand and turn and throw the dirt into Blind Guy's face.

The sound of the ripping parchment is loud in the silent hall. Julian flinches again. I fold the pieces together and tear them again. I keep going until the document is nothing but a handful of white scraps. I open my fingers. The white pieces flutter down to the marble floor. They land on Marcella’s damp skirt. They land on Julian’s polished shoes. “Three years ago, I was blind,” I say to him. “I thought love was a duty. I thought if I bled enough for your people, you would finally see me as a human being.”
