I was blind again. Today was the day of finding the Crown of Canines.

The portrait captured an unsettling scene, frozen in time with eerie precision by the artist’s skilled hand. In the center of the canvas stood a girl, her form tense and vulnerable, clad in somber black attire that contrasted starkly against the darkness of her surroundings. Her eyes were hidden behind a tightly bound blindfold, leaving her at the mercy of her captor, robbed of sight and agency.

All I see is carnage and bad things, and I have to close my eyes as we get to the edge. Then I open them in one breath. And in the middle of the pit is a drawing of a glyph, traced on the ground with blood.

“Let your hands touch the weight first.” I breathe. Nod. My fingers close around the handle. Muscle memory flickers in my wrists like old embers trying to catch flame. But my shoulders go stiff. He could feel his soul shivering inside his skin.
