Family's Regret After She Kneels
A blindfold covered my eyes, pressing tight against my temples.
“Listen. Trust your instincts,” she told me.
But my damaged ear betrayed me. Sounds came jagged, uneven. A branch snapped somewhere to my right, or was it my left? I turned, reaching toward nothing.
A gust of wind shifted, and I stumbled forward, nearly tripping over a root.
“Again,” came the command.
I tried, but my chest tightened with each mistake. My breath came sharp, too fast. The blindfold made me feel caged, and the imbalance of sound cut deep into my nerves.
