She hated how useless she was, putting her safety in Jane and Adom's hands. The wooden door opened and Ammy turned, her heart speeding up in sudden hope of rescue. To her horror, Damon stood there, alone, gazing at Ammy with dark, hungry eyes. Ammy scrambled away from the bars as Damon stalked forward, the alpha unlocking the cell and crowding Ammy into a corner. Ammy glared up at him, on his knees and fighting tears. Had Jane and Adom been discovered? Was Damon here to gloat?

I didn't say a word, I just reacted. Amy must have been airborne for twenty feet before she hit the floor and skittered into a wall. Dwayne had turned around when I yanked them apart. If he was pissed because of that he must really hated what came next, because I was right in the middle of an old fashioned Southern ass-whuppin' when Amy jumped on my back screaming. "Stop! Please Stop! You're killing him."

Lucas raised an eyebrow. Amy leaned in conspiratorially, her eyes sparkling with mischief despite her nervous energy. “You know, being blindfolded and tied up again might actually be an improvement. Could you ask your men to do that like they did when they kidnapped me? At least then, I wouldn’t be able to see how high up we are.” She waggled her eyebrows, a grin spreading across her face. “Plus, it would give you some peace and quiet. Win-win, right?” Lucas’s eyes widened, a startled laugh escaping before he could stop it. He shook his head, torn between amusement and disbelief. “No, Amy,” he muttered.

“Ames!” Amy turned to see her. “Yes?” “Don’t worry about Daisie. Even if she got the lead character, she’s being brutally attacked. I’m very sure that she’s probably hiding somewhere, crying her eyes out.” Amy froze, then said, “She’s not as weak as you think.” “So what? The crew did treat her nicer. Amy knew she wouldn't see it, but maybe someday she could take a winter vacation in this part of the country. With an hour to spare before dinner, Amy turned back. She’s coming to meet me and my dad.” Her expression softens immediately. “Oh. Wow.” “She’s a redhead,” I add. “Striking. You won’t miss her.” Amy chuckles. “Got it.” I dive into the morning briefings, checking properties in escrow, listings about to close. Everything looks solid and profitable. I lean back slightly.

Amy gestured to them to hold on and let her speak, “I have Daniel's two kids under tight surveillance, he doesn't know who I am but he knows that I have the power to make them disappear if he doesn't cooperate.”
