He stalked stealthily closer to his sleeping wife, eyes staring intensely at her unconscious form. He blew on her and her brows scrunched cutely. He lifted a hand, lightly cascading his fingers through her scarlet crown. His wife might not have noticed it but he didn’t need to breathe. That was also why he had no issue swimming in the lake that day. His Lycan breathed, his demon didn’t. He drew his face close to her and breathed in her hypnotizing scent. She began to stir, before blinking blearily at him. “Laylin,” He whispered, leaning closer as he bent further down to her level, letting the name flow in a whisper over her cheeks.

“On your knees.” I can see him do battle with himself, fighting against my order, and ultimately, Callum wins, but he goes down on his knees regardless and bows his head. “Like this?” No. Fuck. I groan and try again, using more force this time. “Stop breathing.” The super soldier inhales, and can’t exhale again. I watch him turn pink, then red, crimon, and finally a shade of purple-blue. He starts to claw at his throat, his eyes bugging out of his skull.

With a flick of wind from her fingertips, she knocked Shirley out. “Darling, when you say breathing technique, is it one that could train your organs?” Seeing how Zendaya was acting, Alex turned serious, asking if she knew something about this. Zendaya said, “From the memories of my awakening, I learned about something. This breathing technique surpasses many training techniques of the Holy Land. This technique doesn’t belong to this universe.” Alex was shocked. ‘If it didn’t belong to this universe, then what was this?’

I wheezed, clambering on the floor as I pushed myself to crawl away as much as possible, even though I didn’t know where I was heading. Damon’s soothing voice rang so distantly as though he wasn’t hovering above me. His warped image was dancing in front of my eyes, and although I could see his mouth moving, I couldn’t hear a word he was saying aside from the beating of my own heart.

Her throat tightened, but her voice stayed steady. “I’m here,” she said. “Breathe with me. Slow. In… and out.” She demonstrated, exaggerating her breathing. “In,” she said softly. “Good. Now out.” His chest hitched. Again. She didn’t move her hand. “Listen to me,” she said calmly. “You’re not dying. You’re not alone. Just follow my voice.” Slowly—agonizingly slowly—his breathing began to steady. The monitor’s rapid beeping eased.

~Lyra~ “Damon… please…” I whispered it before I even meant to. My throat was still burning. My knees were still on the floor. My pulse was still sprinting like it didn’t know if I was dying or just barely surviving. But I said his name. Because I saw him. I saw his body shaking, shoulders pulsing beneath his shirt like his skin was tearing from the inside. His claws were still buried in Camilla’s neck, his lips curled back over his fangs, and his chest was rising in hard, heaving waves like he couldn’t catch his breath. Like he wasn’t trying to breathe at all.

My heart was no longer beating, it felt like it was hammering, trying to break out of my chest. The walls were leaning in, pressing down on me. I remembered Damon's breathing technique. It has always been my life saver. "10...9...8...7...6..", I tried but a ragged gasp broke out. I couldn't hold it for long. My lungs burned, desperate for air. I tried again but it was more like a pathetic wheeze. It wasn't working The darkness crept in and my legs gave out, sliding my back against the floor.

It never even happened! "WAKE THE FUCK UP!" I scream. My fingers pinch her nose and I lean my head lower, still breathing in her. She's not breathing back out and screaming won't change that. "Please..." My voice breaks. My hands are pounding into her chest, not so hard to break a rib but hard enough to activate her heart. I gasp in air then lean my head lower. I'm doing this technique right. I laid her on the ground right..... and her body assumes the right posture.... A lump forces its way down my throat and I hurriedly gasp in air.... I'm breathing into her correctly too then why.... why isn't it working?!

His heart is beating even slower. I tilt his head back to give me more access, and I blow more air into his mouth. I don’t stop, I keep breathing into his mouth. Come on! Breathe! You goddamn omega!. Fucking breathe Sorahiko!. He’s not breathing. I don’t let up. Inhale. Exhale. Push. Not until he takes in that first shaky breath. Not until he starts breathing by himself, albeit shakily. At least he’s breathing. I pick him up gently, cradling the back of his head in my hands. It’s the first time I’ve seen Sorahiko so silent. It’s unnerving.

I start to hyperventilate again as my breathing starts to come out with short gasps. “Breath Hailey, please breathe my Angel. Do not think of what could have happened. I got you. You are safe.” His voice was in a soft but demanding tone as he tries to calm me down. Very slowly I listen to the voice, it is as if it talks to my soul. Making me start to calm down.
