I take the book back out to the living room area, where I pace the room staring at the pages. There are phone numbers, more maps. But there’s nothing on the damn maps to specifically say where it is. No city, state, not even a dang continent. They have to mean something. He couldn’t have possibly had packs in all these places? “Gold Hollow,” I say, finally seeing something under a map. *It has to be a pack,* Hope says, nodding. The screen flickered to life, displaying the city map with layers of safehouses, tunnel systems, and red zones marked off. I pulled up the feed Jonah—or Marco—had given us. The Graveyard. A location buried under two blocks of condemned territory. A place supposedly wiped out in a fire ten years ago. Too forgotten. Too perfect. I zoomed in.

It groaned open. Dust and the scent of old rain filled the chamber. Inside, the walls were lined with faded murals. Silver wolves beneath a white moon. Shadowed wolves beneath a red one. And at the center of the floor, a stone map. Afnan stepped closer, her breath catching. The map had been carved directly into the ground, its lines etched deep into the black stone. Mountain ranges. Forest borders. Rivers. Bloodstone. And two circles. One beneath the fortress.

Ambush points. Aurelia had trained me to hunt wolves. Now I had to use that training to keep two of them alive. The thought sat bitter in my throat. “There’s a drainage tunnel under the ridge,” I said, pointing to a thin line half-hidden beneath Mara’s markings. “It was used before the war to move runoff from the upper farms down to the river basin. Aurelia maps say it’s collapsed.” Mara’s eyes narrowed. “It isn’t.” I looked at her.

I froze. East. I was east. I stared at the map, studying the details, then spotted the creek known as Dead Man’s Gully that cut right across the eastern border of Nightwolf. The map cut off after there, but I knew that if I went west, I would eventually get to the creek, then to Nightwolf. Home. “What are you doing?” Asher shouted. He stormed after me and snatched the map away. I forced a calm smile. “Helping you clean up.”

Hannah murmured, “it must have been terrible.” “Yes, well, it’s over now. We won, the evil guy lost, and all will be right with the world when we get your mother back,” Michael replied tersely. “So, what do you have for us, Gabriel? How do we get to that abandoned mine?” “Well, if you look at this map, it looks like there’s an abandoned mine at the base of this mountain here,” he explained, pointing to an area he had enlarged. “It’s part of the Goldfield Mountains, right next to the Superstitions. From the looks of it, I figure that’s exactly where the entrance is. But Hannah, you mentioned something about a cave-in?”

But he wasn't here now. I crossed the room slowly, listening for footsteps outside the door. Nothing. My heart pounded so hard I could hear it in my ears. I reached the table and looked down. The map on top showed the Crescent Moon territory. Red lines marked the borders. Blue circles marked weak points. Arrows pointed to the main entrance, the east wall, and the river passage. My breath caught. This was it. This was their plan.
