My knees gave way immediately. The sight of blood on the road made my stomach churn, but nothing came up. I curled into a ball, hugging my knees to my chest. What had I just done? Blood streamed down the tarred road, staining it a deep, horrifying red. I felt Noah crouch down beside me. His fingers brushed my hair, pushing it away from my face. I flinched at his touch, and suddenly, I wasn’t on the road anymore. I was back in the dark basement. The place where Noah used to punish me.

Breathing hard. “You okay?” Jax nodded. Tears pricked his eyes—not pain. Relief. Overwhelming. Ronan started moving—slow rolls at first. Deep, steady.
