I’d called them in as backup, told them to guard the mill, but they wouldn’t last long. I flipped the book open, my fingers smearing blood across the page, and chanted the words, my voice shaking. “*Sanguis purgat, luna liberat*…” The air thickened, a hum vibrating through the stone, and the basin rattled where it lay.
