A faint metallic scent began to linger—blood. An unfamiliar scene lay before their eyes. The men’s bodies were scattered around the room, motionless and silent. Some were in unnatural positions, with limbs twisted at impossible angles, while others lay more still, blood flowing from their noses or mouths. This was more than enough to show that they were not merely unconscious—some of them were dead. The once neat apartment had descended into chaos. The table had been pushed aside, the chairs had been overturned, and the door—now nothing more than a memory—lay toppled against one of the walls.

I listened to bursts of gunfire, screams and my men stepping over dead bodies. It was a realistic version of a Hollywood movie scene, but this time, the dead would stay dead and cleaning up that warehouse was going to be a pain in the ass. They’d found more containers, all of them filled with women, some dead and some alive. I grinned as I watched Hudson lose his personality, snapping necks and then turning his blood-soaked face to that first woman in the container. She flung herself at him and when his arms wrapped around her, he looked into the camera.

I felt as if I were drowning in a sea of despair, my mind a chaotic whirlpool. Dominic, now free from my attack, pulled me to my feet. My body obeyed, but my spirit felt trapped in a nightmare. “Now, we can finally start the ceremony.” I felt like a lifeless doll when Dominic effortlessly held me towards the outside of the room. I tried to think straight, but to no avail. My mind keeps wandering back to the room where Everleigh and Thaddaeus’ bodies lie unconsciously.
