His voice was curt, like he needed to put distance between himself and everything that had just been said.
Ashley wanted to protest—wanted to ask where they were going, what they were walking back into, but Nolan’s hand brushed her shoulder in warning. One look from him told her what his words didn’t… stay quiet, stay close.
The ride back was faster, silent, except for the roar of engines. The forest road gave way to pavement, and then to the outskirts of the Vipers territory.
And that is when she saw it.
The first spray of red.
Ashley’s stomach lurched before her brain caught up. It wasn’t paint. It was blood. Splashed across the side of a cinderblock wall that marked the Vipers lot.
