The wind had a metallic tang, cold and heavy. "My skin—Kaelor, look." Aradaa shoved his sleeve up. His veins weren't blue anymore. They were bright, molten silver, pulsing in time with the slow crawl of the moon across the sun. The glow was bright enough to cast shadows against the peeling wallpaper.

Black veins spread beneath the skin of his neck like spilled ink. His eyes lifted toward Lyra— And one of them had turned completely silver.

My mother didn't even have time to cry out. As I drank, the changes became visible. My brown hair darkened strand by strand, transforming into that unnatural burgundy shade I'd grown up hating. My eyes burned as they shifted from ordinary brown to that eerie emerald green. The black veins under my skin pulsed with each swallow of the midwife's blood.

She watched this iciness spread from her veins and ooze into her skin turning it from a deathly pale into a sort of blue color, if she were to describe it it was almost a Saxe blue. Then a light caught her eye, in front of her burned a fire of the same Saxe color that was currently seeping into her pigmentation. She tries to free her hands from my grip overhead but it doesn't work. She curses at me again but it merely amuses me. I'm still stuck on how beautiful she looks like this. Her pale skin shines in the light and the way her blood rushes along her skin only adds to it. It's an unusual blue that matches her eyes and gives her an eternal glow. It's unbelievable.

There were even treatments for it now. They went on to discuss it, and though she couldn't actually say no, she couldn't actually say yes either. The only thing that she would agree on was the fact that it was a possibility that she had never actually really thought of before except for the fact that when she was younger, her nailbeds did have a blue tint. She's always been pale. She thought it was just the way that she looked.

From this angle, I could see that his eyes held different shades of blue. The same way the ocean did. Closer to his pupil the blue turned lighter like the sky and toward the outside of his iris it had a more deep blue color.

“Yes. I did promise you, didn’t I?” He tilted his head at her. “I said I will make you normal again.” “How? By poking me every day?” “It’s called acupuncture. It’s to test your blood flow.” He frowned at her words. She lifted his hand to her and said, “See, your veins are looking normal again. Instead of being black and blue, it’s becoming a normal color.” He pulled his hand to his face as he looked at the veins. He didn’t even notice that his blood vessels were becoming normal again.
