It was not the magenta tone that I knew came from my own power, while the prince-warrior was inside me, the power that flowed in my veins was of an impressive neon blue tone, identical to what I saw in his infernal city. And it was by observing this glow that I began to move with back-and-the-s movements around it. The bluish glow sparkled and radiated against the walls of the cave, obscuring even the orange light of the lantern. Beneath the thin layer of birth-fluid, the baby’s skin wasn't marked by the typical corporate barcodes or registry tattoos that every mid-tier infant received at birth. For a second, a faint, geometric pattern of violet light pulsed beneath her collarbone—a ghost of the Vane Global data-stream—and then it simply dissolved, swallowed by a deep, light-drinking shadow that left her skin smooth and unblemished. She let out another cry. It wasn't a whimper. It was a sharp, concussive sound that vibrated through the marble floor, causing the puddles of melted silicone around us to ripple.

It was his skin. ​Fine, glowing lines of gold were beginning to map themselves under the surface of his forearms, following the path of his veins like a digital circuit board. His eyes, normally a soft, deep brown, were shimmering with a terrifying, iridescent light that pulsated in time with a heartbeat that was far too fast, far too rhythmic to be human.

What had once been a faint discoloration had deepened into something unmistakable. A crescent curved along the side of my neck just below my jaw, its edges soft and blurred like a bruise blooming beneath the skin. The color settled into shades of deep indigo and muted violet, darker toward the outer arc, where the shape sharpened into faint, clawed ridges. The curve looked almost like a storm-wind sweeping across my throat. At the center of the crescent, a narrow lightning vein cut downward. It was thin, jagged, pale silver against the darker tones surrounding it. Not bright enough to glow, but bright enough that the shape stood out sharply if someone looked closely.

I winced, blinking hard, blinded for a moment. When my eyes finally adjusted, he pulled back the hood. And my heart jolted. His skin—his face—looked human at first glance, but it was marbled with something dark. Thin black cracks crawled under his pale skin like they were alive, pulsing faintly with each breath he took. His eyes were the colour of ash mixed with blood, eerie and unnatural. And those veins… they weren’t just under the surface—they were in it. Like something ancient trying to burst out.

He growled in my head, urging me to move on to the next victim. I took a thorough look at the next person who lay lifelessly on the ground. The blue dye on his black hair had become an undertone of red as a result of the dried blood that matted his hair. His eyes, unlike the blonde's, were partially gorged out, and his face was contorted in a permanent expression of fear. Black veins crawled up his neck. I used my hands to trace the veins down, and I noticed they were spread all over his body, just like the blonde.

My heart stuttered in my chest, hope and fear warring inside me with equal ferocity. Right under my fingers, those ugly, thick blue veins that had been spreading across Ronan's jaw and neck like a spiderweb... they started to fade. It was like watching ink get washed from a shirt, the darkness dissolving under the gentle pressure of clean water. The dark, sickly purple color just began to recede, dissolving back under his skin as if it had never been there at all. His cheeks lost that awful, pasty grey look, a faint, healthy flush of pink starting to creep back into his jawline.

"Okay, I want something beautiful, that catches the eye immediately, but that isn't to in your face." I say and they all nod their heads, thinking about what I said. “What about dark blues, maybe some light blues inbetween with silver accents?” Asher’s mother suggests and my mother nods her head with a smile. “I like it. Moonlight tones.” She says, I open my mouth to speak but Anna beats me to it. “I like it, but no pastels, just the dark blue with silver.” She says and I nod my head. “Thank you, I was thinking the same.”

I pried open my lids and looked up into the face of a living ghost. Her skin was albino pale with obvious veins and blue capillaries beneath the surface. Her ocular orbs were a deep milky white, with a tinge of light blue. I could barely make out the pupils. Her hair was whiter than Pamela's. From the structure and musculature of her hands and face...it was as if a perfectly healthy human woman's body was in a constant frantic battle against death.

The whole of his upper body was bare and wet, water dripping from his hair to trickle down. "We," Alex breathed out, feeling cold shivers down his spine Seb placed his palm on his cheek to caress it. His hands were wet and cold, making Alex shiver at his every touch. "We have plans for the day, right?" "I know," Seb replied, Alex immediately looking away. "Blue, look at me." Gulping, Alex looked directly into Seb's blue eyes, catching a familiar glint in them. They looked so intense and Alex knew exactly what they meant as he felt it too.
