--- AT THE PRIVATE ISLAND As the yacht stopped, the engine fell silent, leaving only the gentle splash of waves. The pier glowed under golden lights, and a cool breeze carried the salty scent of the ocean, brushing against my hair. Demetri turned to me, reaching into his coat pocket. Without a word, he pulled out an intricate masquerade mask, a deep burgundy red with gold embellishments that shimmered under the dim lights. Carefully, he lifted it, securing it over my face. His fingers lingered briefly along my jaw before pulling away.

“Nope. Didn’t you check our mail?” I stared at the abomination in his hand like it had personally insulted my ancestors. “Well, lucky for you, I came prepared.” He raised an eyebrow. “Oh no.” “Oh yes.” I turned, dramatically. “Bob! Masks!” Right on cue, Bob strutted over like he’d just stepped off a runway in Milan instead of... wherever we were. He handed me a box like it contained the crown jewels. Inside: sleek, custom-designed masks that said we RSVP'd with style.

I needed full anonymity. “Yes,” I said again, firmer this time. “But tonight, I want one.” She hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “All right. A mask it is. What color?” Anything but red, nearly slipped from my lips. But that may give away too much and leave room for questions. “What colors are available?” “Five. Blue, green, white, yellow, and red.” Blue was always Moira’s courtesan signature identity, both in Pleasur’io and now in Naked Den. Taking it would be like impersonating her, and the very idea left a sour taste in my mouth.

Hasen said as he took out a box and placed it on the table. Amanda grabbed some and examined them. They are modern masquerade ball masks, some of which were white, black, or silver in color. They were embellished with sparkling glitter, side feathers, jewels, and glossy silk. There are half, full, or had handles that cover the upper part of the face. "I will go now, I—" Jin said as he stood up, but he was pushed by back Hasen and Goro. "Hey man! No fair! Have some fun as well!" Hasen pats his back and side-hugged him, "Come with us to the nightclub!"

It was time for part B of the plan. I would soon put an end to all of this. There was no way I would let them hurt Aurora or my little angel. I would keep her safe and protected no matter what I had to do. I picked up the skin-colored mask and wore it on my face. Soon, the person staring at me had a wheatish complexion, no scar, and a huge mole top of the lips. I put on blue contacts to complete the look. Pleased with my disguise, I prepared to leave…

I playfully slapped my hand to my forehead and scolded him for frightening me earlier. "What? I just averted a major disaster," he said, defending himself with a confident smirk. Thankfully, we didn't have to search for masks for too long. Kenny was determined to find the perfect ones for all of us, especially for Jasper. He finally settled on a silver mask adorned with blue stones and feathers that perfectly complemented my dress. For Jasper, he found a sleek black and blue mask, and for himself, a simple black mask with elegant black stones.

John says as he wonders how these three distinguished people are in league with Pentalium. "The way they look into my eyes at the plains confirms that they have worked with another Zonian before." William begins to scan the prison with his Sense. "The plague masks, the ones I fought at the Ball, and the generals all have these masks. They also have these attires: green for males, red for females, and the plague masks are for the sellers of the cure." William says as he inspects the masks of the generals.

CHAPTER ELEVEN “Amara, you forgot about this.” Amethyst handed me a mask. The mask would only cover half of the wearer’s face, including the forehead and the area surrounding the eyes. It was a masquerade mask. It was shaped like those butterfly wings. It was crafted from silver, with crystal beads designed at its corners and a black sun with four rays at the upper center. It has a lace at both ends. “Who owns it?” Amethyst asked curiously.

Naomi stepped back and studied her work. “I’m done,” she said, holding out a blue mask. I frowned. “What’s this for?” “You’re the flavour of the evening,” she explained. “Masks make buyers curious. Mystery sells.” I hesitated before slipping it on. When I looked in the mirror, I barely recognised myself. The woman staring back looked polished, beautiful even, but distant. The blue mask hid half my face, turning me into someone else. “Good luck,” Naomi said softly. “Tonight, your name is Blue.”

“The color of that dress suits you perfectly.” My cheeks flush with a rosy pink sort of hue, and I’m glad to have the mask covering my face. I glance down at the intricate lacework of my dark blue gown and the delicate Venetian mask that hides my identity. “Thank you,” I reply, my own voice barely more than a whisper as well. “You look handsome as well. I like your mask.” Karl chuckles, reaching up to touch the simple black mask covering half of his face. “You’re sure?” he asks. “I was worried it’s too simple.”
