It’s loud–a deep roar that splits my body into pieces–then… silence swells before the floor beneath me returns, and the soft ticking of a clock fills my ears. I sway into something stiff and immovable. Blake’s arms snake around me, tugging me against his chest as my blurry vision settles on a softly lit foyer in a very suburban home that’s definitely not in Eastonia. Crystal sconces illuminate soft blue walls, lighting a stairwell to a loft overlooking the first floor, where family pictures stretch along the wall beside the stairs. The walls were painted in a muted, neutral tone and the room had four large windows, allowing plenty of natural light to flood the room, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. But I just can’t help it. I got out the shower and blow dried my hair. I then let my self fall in my bed. I’m just staring at the ceiling, waiting my eyes to close and sleep. But even if I already close my eyes, Amira’s image is there. I chuckled at my self. I’m crazy.

No, breathtaking. The front door opened into a wide, open-concept living area bathed in soft, ambient light. The whole space felt like calm that had been distilled into architecture. Cream-colored walls. A massive beige sectional facing a wall-mounted TV the size of a small billboard. A soft rug with abstract patterns sprawled across the polished marble floor. Everything smelled faintly of cedar and cinnamon, warm, comforting—like someone cared.

I have no idea what I did right to deserve her, but I’ll never take a moment for granted. “In here my sweet,” I say, as I flip on the light. I’m still holding her hand but when we step into the room, she pulls away to cover her mouth in shock. The far wall is all glass that moves just like in the main room. It opens to a deck where the sun sets, though I’ve only gotten to see it on camera. Cameras have been my saving grace in Aurora’s absence, letting me live through the day in a way. There are two accent walls with different designs of white and blues. The curtains over the other windows are a mixture of different blues as are the rugs over the heated wooden floors.

My steps are silent as I move toward the other end of the corridor. As I walk through, the living room appears highlighted by a subtle bluish glow.

The lavender scent from the lighted candles in the living room brought a sense of ease each time I was within the four walls. It has a beige and cream-colored theme with a cracking furnace that has served the quarter for a millennium of years. The tiles are a perfect blend of black and white and it compliments the entire nude coloured living room. The white curtains are parted side by side to give a panoramic view of the street. My parents are situated at a far corner of the room and I watched with interest when mom stood up and walked towards me with a smile on her face.

The last time I was here to check out the place, it was empty. But now, the living room has modern minimalist furniture, ivory accented with dark teak. Lot of buttery leather, and several watercolor paintings of green mountains on the walls. Some of them are my paintings. The floor is pale champagne marble, buffed to a glossy sheen. A few geometric- patterned rugs add to the ambiance. There’s even an open archway that connects the living room to the dining room. No door for partitioning, but it makes the space appear bigger and airier.
