So thin, so bony . His panting breath stumbled when he felt clear bumps under his palms where - if his memories weren't very fooled - shouldn't be. Then it dawned on him. Bone. It was his bones that he felt. A little frightened, he raised his head and peeked timidly down at himself. He looked like a living skeleton. His ribs and hip bones were clearly visible under his white, parchment-like skin. Every tendon caught his eye. Horrified, he dropped back again and stared in disbelief at the shattered ceiling. He needed food immediately.

My fingers twitched, then cracked, bones reshaping with a sickening snap. My knuckles bulged, dark claws slicing through my flesh as they forced their way free. I gritted my teeth, veins standing out against my neck as the change took hold. My spine arched violently, the sound of vertebrae shifting like breaking branches. The fabric of my shirt strained, then ripped as jagged bone spurs tore through, the muscles beneath writhing as they expanded. A shuddering breath escaped me, turning into a snarl as my jaw unhinged and they elongated.

The transformation began in earnest. His spine convulsed a full bodied seizure that threw him against the glass window with enough force to crack it. The impact rattled through his entire skeleton as his bones began the hideous work of reconstruction. They didn’t break cleanly. They warped, stretching, the marrow inside burning like it was being cauterized. His femurs lengthened, the growth so rapid it felt like his legs were being torn from his hips. His pelvis shifted, the socket sockets dislocating to accommodate new angles of movement that human bodies were never meant to achieve.

How nervous must he be if he was threatening to stab Sebastian with a banana? Sebastian slapped Larry so hard that he flew into the air and crashed against a wall before falling heavily down to the floor. The slap had been so hard that Larry's ears were ringing. Then, there was the sound of consecutive cracks mingled with the sound of Larry's screams. Benaiah and Jesse stared dazedly at Sebastian. Larry was lying on the ground, covered in blood. I mumbled to myself before putting my bones back in their place. The pain shook my body as if there were tons of bricks crushing my hand. My teeth bared and every inch of my body shivered. As the pain started to feel unbearable, I could finally feel my bones healing. Once I could finally move my fingers, I grasped the silver fetter and pulled it out of my wrist, causing me to groan uncontrollably. I dropped it on the ground and brought my hands closer to my chest to relieve the pain. Taking a deep breath, I laid my palms on the cold floor and lifted myself from the ground.

She reaches forward and pain slams into me as the shift begins. My bones crack and break just to rearrange. I look down to see my hands rippling as paws start to take form. My face burns as my skull changes to make room for my snout. I hunch down as the pain flows through my chest and stomach and my legs buckle beneath me. I grit my teeth to stop from screaming as I heave.

Chapter 25– Tell me the truth. Rowena's POV I glanced at my bloodied legs. I could see my bones hanging, some in pieces and the only thing still connecting my knee to my feet was a piece of flesh. I groaned as I tried to adjust and sit in at least a little more comfortable way.

He glanced at his bony rusty hands and noticed every part of him was like that. He climbed out of the box he was lying in, his bony legs wobbled a little but after a few seconds, he stood straight. There was a big looking glass and he couldn’t remember having that there before. He walked towards it and when he saw the reflection in the mirror, he was almost scared himself, —almost—. The creature staring back at him was a bony rusted skeleton with glowing red eyes. He took a deep breath and caught the scent, there was someone with him, someone like him but healthier.

HELEN’S P.O.V. Walking on bone doesn't sound like walking on stone. Stone is solid; it returns the energy of your step. Bone absorbs it. It feels dead, damp, and fundamentally wrong. We ascended the spiraling ramp of the Bone Tower. To my left was a sheer drop of three hundred feet into the burning ruins of the Market District. To my right was the central pillar of the tower a fused, twisted spine the width of a redwood tree, made from thousands of crushed skeletons.

Larissa scoffed coldly, "The skull has 29 bones, but you couldn't even get that right and made a skull with 30 bones. What do you think you're making, an alien skeleton?" The senior blushed. "O-Of course, I know that! You just mixed up all the bones after you kicked them loose!" She'd gotten the measurements wrong and couldn't piece the bones together at the start. Thus, she figured she'd fixed the problem by adding a tiny bone somewhere deep underneath. How did a freshman notice such a small bone in such an unnoticeable place? One of the braver freshmen walked up to count the bones. "One, two, three … There really are 30 bones! There's an extra piece in there!"
