“We got it, Uncle. We’ll call if we see anything suspicious.” Eren gave us both a tight smile, then turned, the twins trailing after him with far too much swagger for boys carrying nothing but bottled water and bravado. I blew out a slow breath. “North it is, then.” The alleys leading up into town wound like veins, all uneven cobblestone and ancient stone houses with carved windows. Every step seemed uphill. The heat shimmered, making the air itself look like it might melt. My shirt clung worse than before. “Water,” Pelin said, tugging hers free from her bag.

The Palais de la Bourse was a hollowed-out lantern of fire behind us, its gold-leafed ceilings collapsing into the blue nutrient gel of the ruined auction. We ran through the narrow, medieval veins of the Le Panier district, the smell of charred cedar and ozone chasing us toward the water. The city had turned into a predatory organism; every alleyway held the glint of a scavenger’s blade, and every rooftop was a perch for the Strike-Willow marksmen.

Soon, I arrived at a nook down the corner of Faber Alley and I was finally alone, for now. I crouched my knees in perpetual exhaustion, clutching my breath as if I was panting for my life. I walked through the endless rows of crumbling red masonry on the cusp of dawn which the alleyway turned into blood-red night. My figure cast red shadows of dwarves and monsters onto the bricks, creepily reminding me of the image of my decaying sister. At the end of the alley, an open backdoor revealed itself, casting a faint white light on the parallel wall.

Tightening her grip on the compartment, she murmured. In the alleyway where there are potholes full of filthy water, trash from fast-food wrappers, flattened cardboard boxes and piles of wood, Brett smelled the reeking scents of mixed human urine, rotting trash and gasoline. It's a sight he hated. However, he likes the darkness, mystery and creepiness every alleyway has to add some thrill to his thirst. "Come out while I'm asking. You won't like it if I suddenly appear behind your backs and slit your neck one by one," he said as he bathed his expensive shoes in the puddle of cold dirty water.

An hour later Evelyn was walking down the alleyway leading to the underground gambling den. The alleyway was dark and narrow, the walls covered in graffiti and the ground littered with trash. A lone streetlight flickered at the end of the alley, casting an eerie glow over the scene. The sound of music and voices drifted from a door at the end of the alley, muffled but growing louder as she approached. A sense of foreboding filled the air, a feeling that something dangerous and illicit lay just beyond the door.

The next day, at sunset... A lonely and gloomy figure was walking in the long and narrow alley alone. There would be an intersection and crooked road every twenty meters. There were a lot of them, and all the roads were connected. This place was Alley Town, the most famous attraction in South City. The families and houses were located side by side and one after another. An alley could be found everywhere. Some alleys were connected together, while some were broken in the middle.

Feeling assured in my decision, I take a steady breath and press forward. My belly skims the ground as I slink around the corner, pressing myself against the wall. Every nerve is on edge, my senses attuned to the slightest sound, the faintest shift in the air. The alley is dimly lit, shadows stretching long against the cracked pavement. The stench of rotting food assaults my nose as I reach the side of a rusted metal bin, its lid barely hanging on. The putrid smell churns my stomach, forcing me to stifle a gag.

Judging by his calm demeanor and the way he looked about as though a natural act, Jake seemed familiar with this alley. There were few other shadows lurking in other corners, causing anyone present to feel a sense of danger. Whispers echoed off the walls as underworld activities went on, adding to the eerie atmosphere. The alley was a place which Jake knew quite well for being the spot for trading secrets and engaging in shady deals which are made under the veil of the shadows. The alley was always filled with scumbags and rogues who knew nothing but to cause atrocities in the city. Unable to hold back their feral urges, they were the reason why almost all werewolves in the city had hunters

I asked she slowly nods her head sideways. "You don't wanna know" she says "Oh come on, I wanna know please" I whimpered like a five year old. "They call it Good Luck Alley because, well, good luck trying to get out alive," Allison replied, sending a shiver down my spine. "And we are walking." I panicked while she snorts laugh like a pig at my discomfort. "I'm joking, relax. This place doesn't get worse than it already is by midnight, and it's only nine, so we're safe for now," Allison reassured, the last part delivered with a mischievous attempt to spook me.

I was in a damp, pitch-black cellar, hunched in a corner with my injured leg behind me. The walls were slimy and wet, and the moisture soaked through my blouse. The door swung open, and a burst of light stung my eyes. I lifted my hand to block it. I heard footsteps and quickly shrank back, hiding deeper in the shadows. "Mr. Carver sent me to get you, Mrs. Carver." I looked up to see who it was. It was the bodyguard Henry had hired years ago.
