I would never admit that I, myself, missed him. Sighing, I gather all of my courage and waltz into the kitchen. My breath catches in my throat when I see Alex sitting at the kitchen table . He had his head in a book and was quietly sipping from the coffee cup in front of him, but when I enter his head shoots up. His eyes are too intense and I look away, continuing over to the fridge.

I interrupted the butler's explanation of the amenities as I asked, "When did Mr. Hawk book the room?" The butler put on his signature smile as he faced the camera and said, "Normally, bookings need to be done three months in advance. "But Mr. Hawk had emphasized repeatedly that he wanted to prepare a surprise for you. So, we immediately began to prepare after receiving the news about 20 days ago." It seemed like he had booked the room early on, but why— Did he know I would win today's lawsuit? Suddenly, a ridiculous thought came to mind. I wanted to ask him how sincere his feelings toward me truly were.

Bo chuckles and says, "I will." He then walks down the hall and sets me down in front of a large door. He waves his phone in front of a black box on the door and it chimes before it opens the door. I walk in and see the beautiful view from the top floor from the front entrance! This must be his home! It was so big! I turned around and asked, "Is this your house?!" Bo nodded before he smiled. He then picked me up as I hugged him.

"Yes. We close at nine." The man walked toward the desk, his heavy boots echoing in the empty space. He pulled a stack of four hardcover books from inside his jacket, somehow keeping them dry. He set them on the counter with a solid thud. "Returning these. Didn't want to get hit with another fine. You guys are ruthless." Owen looked at the books. They were all westerns. Louis L'Amour. "We prefer to think of it as incentivizing punctuality." The man laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrated through the quiet room. "I bet you do. I'm Jax, by the way."

She shrugged and then tipped up her chin to indicate that he must keep going. He heaved a loud sigh. “I live in a small settlement not too far from your cabin. My father sort of runs the place. We are a group of maybe a hundred people. We are a tight-knit community that keeps to ourselves. Carpentry is my trade and I sell some woodwork at a place in town. She leaned closer to him. Her chin on her hand. “Woodwork? How cool. What sort of work do you sell?” A ruddy color coated his cheeks. “Some furniture. Tourist trinkets like chains, book rests and wooden containers with some artwork on them.” His shoulders hunched together. “Those sorts of things. Nothing major.
