She raises her eyebrows, clearly expecting some appreciation for her terrible humor. And even though I try to resist, the laugh bursts out before I can stop it. It’s so loud it actually echoes, and suddenly, every pair of eyes in the sparring room swivels around to stare at us. But honestly? I could not care less. Absolutely.” He cleared his throat, adopting a serious tone. “Why don’t skeletons fight each other?” Riele blinked, momentarily thrown off. “Why?” “Because they don’t have the guts.” The joke was terrible. Absolutely awful. But Riele burst into laughter anyway, the tension in her chest breaking apart with each giggle. Jay grinned, triumphant, as if her joy were his greatest victory.

Forgot to tell you sooner. He had sent me messages almost three hours ago. I smile and reply. Me: That’s Ok! Sorry I didn't answer you sooner. I didn’t feel like attending, so I skipped. As we reach home, I behold myself to receive some lame one-liner about skipping classes. The ridiculous hairstyle one of the guards wore last time and how he claimed it was “wolf-core aesthetic.” He kept sending memes, dumb ones, chaotic ones, completely unnecessary ones and yet each one made me snort or cover my mouth to hide a laugh. Somehow, without even trying, he pulled me out of that fog I’d been drowning in all morning. At some point, hours passed together.
