The sound of more footsteps echoed behind us, closing in. Noah’s jaw clenched. He scanned the alley walls too high to climb, dumpsters chained shut, fences topped with barbed wire, and the net was closing but then his eyes narrowed, locking on the fire escape ladder half-rusted against the wall.
“There,” he said, already moving.
