I hesitated for half a second, then nudged it open.
The bedroom was… unexpectedly beautiful. Large, yes, but not cold. The bedding was white and crisp, the kind you didn’t dare sit on with dusty clothes. A tall bookshelf stood against one wall, filled with thick hardcover books, all neatly arranged by size. A balcony door sat partly open, letting in a soft breeze that made the sheer curtains sway.
The air smelled faintly of cedarwood and something else—clean, warm, masculine.
I set the supplies down and gathered my hair into a high, curly bun, using an elastic from my wrist. A few strands fell loose at my temples, but I decided they could stay. They softened my face a little.
