Book Review For Little Women Romane & Geschichten

I look over to where Primus had been sitting not so long ago. What's this? Primus left something behind. A book? Was this the gift he meant to give me? It is a small thing, dainty. I cannot imagine someone as large as Primus ever reading this because how could he ever hold onto it without breaking it? It looks so precious, and fragile. Even as a child, I can't imagine he would have been small or careful enough to read it. Gently, as if lifting a rose from a vase, I pick up the blush pink volume, marveling at the delightful texture of its silk binding, the title embroidered in gold. While I might not know many words yet, I know enough that I can read the title of this book.

Some part of me wanted that. Not because I wanted the power. Not because I wanted to collect people like trophies. Because the thought of being wanted like that; to be chosen like that, made something in my chest go warm and tight. All because I had read... things. Books. Ones that I pretended they were "just entertainment." Stories that had made me squirm under blankets and bite my lip and tell myself I was being ridiculous. But the ones that had gotten me the most... the ones that lit my skin up and made my pulse race, were the ones where the woman wasn't lonely in love.

I pick it up; it's written in italic font. ' Good morning, Apphia. I had a lovely time with you yesterday. You only deserve the best, " I smile and carry the half-bloomed lotus to my nose. It smells amazing. I read the title of the new novel, Little Women. I've never read it before. The door opens, and Lily comes in, carrying a tray of dishes in her hands. She smiles at me, " Good morning, Apphia, you look luminous this morning."

Finally, with a sigh, I shook my head and muttered to myself, “I can only have one of you.” The marshmallow looked innocent enough. The book, on the other hand, was dangerously sweet. After a moment of consideration, I popped the marshmallow into my mouth and continued reading. The book Indy gave me was a short romance story. She had said it would be a good place to start. I was beginning to suspect that she had deliberately chosen something that would make my heart explode. It was the classic story of a prince and a pauper. The female lead was poor, kind, and so selfless that it made my stomach hurt sometimes. She helped strangers, fed animals, and forgave people who did not deserve forgive

"Only one way to prove that." "Careful, wife." I warned, my voice low and teasing. "I always rise to a challenge." She laughed softly, her gaze falling to the book she’d closed. "Do you know what this book’s about?" I glanced at the title again, pretending to think. "A family, right? Something about poverty and resilience?" She nodded, seeming a bit surprised though she had found the book in the beach house, probably assuming I've never read it. "It’s about overcoming tough beginnings and finding beauty in broken places. It’s sad but also hopeful." Her voice softened and she looked thoughtful.

This time, I didn't chase him, didn't clutch at his sleeve, didn't sob and beg him to stay. I just stood there, staring after him, until his footsteps grew fainter. The sting in my nose began to spread, sharp, hot, and unrelenting. The photos had only just been developed, and already they lay in shreds. But the face on them was already carved into my memory. So this was Winnie Leigh. She was beautiful. I clamped a hand over my mouth to keep from breaking into sobs, but the tears spilled anyway, rolling down my hand like beads from a broken necklace.

The way I had smiled while something inside me recoiled. I crossed the room and pulled a familiar book from the shelf. Little Women. The spine was worn. Soft. My fingers knew it without looking. I settled into the armchair near the window and opened it to a random page. I read the same paragraph three times without absorbing a word. My thoughts kept drifting. Not to the reporters. Not to the headlines that would probably follow. To Jacob. The way he had looked at me the night before, torn between want and restraint. I looked around the large library on the fifteenth floor of the office. Two years I worked here, I never visited the library because of course work is more important. Besides being used as a display, this library is usually used for programmers who want to work in peace. If Big Man's secretary hadn't taken Rhysand and me to the library, I might have been the only employee who had never visited this room. I love reading. Reading novels. The first novel I read was by Louisa May Alcott; Little Woman, and then moved on to other feminist novels such as Handmaid's Tale and Pride and Prejudice—the book I'm holding right now.
