A gust of air left my mouth. A killer. That’s a first for me. _________ Isabelle’s Point of View: The day fluttered into a moment as I sat on the couch reading my favorite book of all times: “Pride & Prejudice”. I have always loved this story, the end was so much happier than anything real life could offer.

Their smiles were infectious, and I found myself grinning along even though I hadn't the slightest idea what they were speaking of the majority of the trip. When we went through a village, it was like a Christmas card. The pointy roofs, cobbled steps, and canopies were perfect. It was beautiful the way the rolling hills often hid a massive country estate or sometimes a crumbling castle. For someone who loved romance novels, this was my favorite dream come true. Not many girls my age had read Jane Austen. Granted most have seen the movie, Pride and Prejudice. But when you read Austen, you get a real feel for what it was like. I truly felt transported back in time, and I was loving it.

My father-in-law, Richard Prescott, held a powerful position for years, and no one ever dared to treat him like this. He exploded in anger on the spot. He barked, "Jaclyn Prescott, that ungrateful brat! Has she forgotten who gave her every penny she has? How dare she let this pompous butler insult her own father? This is outrageous!" My mother-in-law, Leona Reed, was equally furious. "Richard, we need to have a serious talk with Jaclyn when we get back. Since when does a butler get to overstep the man of the house and boss people around?"

Actually, what might be more affecting is how much he seems to enjoy teasing me with it. I stand up and offer him a hand. He gets to his feet on his own. I roll my eyes. Men . We finally go back inside and settle on the couch, each with a book, me in my spot and Ryan in his spot. His looks like a spy or thriller novel. I'm reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time. I'd always meant to read it, but just never had the time. Now that I've got nothing but time, I'm beginning to realize that I should have read this book sooner. I'm loving it.

“I don’t know. You keep everything in such good condition. I’m almost afraid to touch anything in this room.” “I know you’ll be careful with my things.” She nodded and pulled the book off the shelf. “I didn’t know you liked Jane Austen.” “Why not?” She shrugged. “She’s a woman author.” “I’m broad minded enough to think women have a lot to offer society. I enjoy her work.” “This is one of my favorite books. Sense and Sensibility. The story of two sisters who represent two opposing forces: logic and emotion.” He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. He seemed to be considering her analysis of the book. “I didn’t think anyone else in Virginia understood that.”

She asked Alex about his investor call, made jokes at my expense, and generally acted like a woman who belonged exactly where she was. This was who she was meant to be. Confident. Happy. Free. And watching her come into her power was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever witnessed. Later, after the dishes were done, I found her in the library, curled up in one of the leather chairs with the copy of Pride and Prejudice that Alex had given her. "Good book?" I asked. She looked up, marking her place. "I've read it a dozen times, but it never gets old. There's something comforting about stories where everything works out in the end."

Since then, he hasn't sent another one or even tried calling. I started packing my things into my suit bag to leave work for today. Corby was right. I do need a break and the best way to spend that, is by seating at home by the window, with a mug of coffee in my hand, while I read my favourite book. Pride and prejudice. The book helps me get away from my own life of loneliness and misery. Knowing Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy went through a lot with love, makes me feel at ease. Even though they did end up together, I'm not sure that, that part would apply to my life.

The quiet of the library, which moments ago felt peaceful, now feels laden with tension. I stand abruptly, needing to break the moment before I do something impulsive. "Can we explore more of the library? I'd love to see what's in some of these sections." "Of course," Armani says, rising smoothly. If he's disappointed by the change in direction, he doesn't show it. "I think you'll particularly enjoy the rare books collection. They have a first edition of *Pride and Prejudice*." "Are you serious?" My literary heart skips a beat. "That's my favorite book of all time."

I began walking closer. "What's your favourite book?" she asks. A book lay on her lap and she left it open to keep her eyes on me. "Pride and Prejudice," I confess. "Ah, typical. If there is anything that I taught my children and grandkids, it is to be original." As I got closer to her, her age began to show more and more. "There's nothing unoriginal about liking Pride and Prejudice. It is a great book and deserves the appreciation," I defend, and I hear her chuckle.

I curse at my clumsiness and after keeping rest of the books in the box, I pick up the book lying on the floor. I dust the dirt from it,as it looks very old. That's when my eyes lay on the book cover. It is 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen. One of my favourite classics. Elizabeth Bennett is one of my favourite fictional characters. But more than that,this book holds a deeper sentimental value. This is the book that my father gave me ony 10th birthday. He knew about my love for classics,so he suprised me with this.
