Hans opened the cover of the transparent container glass on the book. He carefully took the old book in his hand and intently looked at the title written in bold letters on the cover. “King Dominique’s Memoirs, so I’m guessing this is the one. This will answer those doubts of mine.”

"What are you reading?" Isn't he being overly friendly? How extroverted is this guy? The corner of his lips twitched a bit as he read the title. This didn't go unnoticed by Ryder who felt her inner bookworm awaken. "Have you read it before?" The book was rather thick, and the number of pages usually scared people away... and by people, I mean "uncultured lads" who didn't like reading. The cover of the book was a bit damaged even though the title "The Ashen Soul" looked as good as new and the pages felt old to the touch from the overusing. There were stick notes and bookmarks every few pages.

I skimmed through it immediately, pursing my lips as my eyes ran across the words. Most of what was said didn't concern me, so I skipped them, searching for where they talked about powers but didn't see any. “It would be much easier to check through the preface. I think all the topics must have been listed down.” Avilla suggested down my shoulder. Meg came to stand on my other side, looking curiously from me to the book. I thanked Avilla and did as she said. True enough, all topics were written down, making it easier for me. As I ran my eyes over the titles, I was careful not to miss a thing. Then I saw it, it was on page 106. The title was power.

The inscription on the drawer read 'staffs only. “The greatest Alpha in the werewolf history.” He read the title out as he did always. Like almost all the books Yugo have him, it was old. This one had a green book cover, a thick book jacket that had began to peel, not the greatest sight. The book had weight. As usual, he opened the last page to know how many pages. It was numbered in Roman numerals so he couldn’t tell how many pages but it was certain that it was over a thousand page.

The title page and table of contents looks normal, but I keep flipping pages to get to chapter one. Two more pages and I’m staring at the first chapter, titled “Finding a Companion.” I almost missed the title completely because my eyes were drawn to the center of the page where there was a rectangular shaped wooden box. All the pages had been cut through the center to fit this box inside, and there was something carved into the box. It was an image of the compass rose and the words “You’re My True North.” I glance back up to the first sentence of the chapter and it reads, “When preparing for an adventure, the first, and possibly most important, decision is who you will choose as your comp

She picked a few out and moved to another section. She began to search through sections, checking the books, when her eyes caught a book in the corner of the shelf. The title of the book caught her attention as she pulled it out. Selene covered her mouth with her hand when she saw the cover of the book. Her eyes are wide with shock. It was a picture of a handsome young man, his chest bare, and a lady standing by his back. Her lips were kissing his nape. “Desires and Pleasure"; she read the title aloud and took the book.

I said, and Rick nodded as he walked to the center of the room and dropped into a chair. My fingers glide along the books as I read their titles. I pull one out, glance at the first few pages, and then slip it back into its place before continuing. “Hmmm,” I hummed as I squatted to see the books at the bottom. My fingers glide along the books, and my heart stops when I read one of the titles, “How to Reject a Mate and the Consequences that Follow.” Slowly, I pulled the book from its slot and flipped through a few pages.

It somehow felt like I was reliving memoirs that should normally haunt me. I shook my head to come out of my own head. I kept walking round the tall shelves, jumping up and holding the shelf for support. I stopped in front of one part, and my eyes caught a title that intrigued me. “The Demon King, and the human he desires.” The title read. I just observed it from where I was, wondering about what I'd get from the book. “It works now!” Jessica's voice rang through the house. I hurriedly grabbed the book, and I left to see her.

It was probably one of the contemporary romance books with a weak-ass female lead, a plot lacking storyline, and thousands of sex scenes, yet she seemed to cherish this one book. Suddenly, I became curious about the content of the book, I wanted to know what kind of book this book was, and because of the rough covers and the crisp edges, I could tell she had read it a lot of times. “The first page and you’re already declaring war?” I asked myself as I flipped the book open and read the chapter title. It seemed like I was in for a ride.
