It wasn't a soft landing when I fell through the book. I sat up quickly trying to gather what happened. Looking around it was a beautiful meadow with wild flowers lining the tree line. Not to far from me was a spring fed pond lined with rocks and a lone tree. I approached the tree when I see on the other side a bench with a woman sitting on it. I approached slowly on guard of who it could be. When I made it to the edge of the bench, slowly the woman turned towards me with a bright smile.

Curiosity was eating at her. With an effort, she made herself focus on the other titles. He had books on negotiating, battle tactics, history, agriculture…boring. Didn’t the man read any fiction? There was a book on stained glass that looked mildly interesting, but she kept scanning the shelves, hoping for something more enticing. Her search was rewarded. There, right in the middle of his shelves at eye level, was an entire shelf of books devoted to lovemaking. Wiley’s eyes boggled as she read the titles: An Illustrated Guide to the Sensual Arts. A Woman’s Climax. Emotional Need and the Sensual Virgin. There were dozens of titles.

Mom supported me, not because she understood, but because she loved me and wanted me to be happy. I stood up and walked around the library, feeling a little restless. They had all of the classics, and some of them looked as though they were expensive copies. Other authors that I regularly read, such as James Patterson and Dean Koontz were on the shelves. They even had some of my female favorites, such as Lisa Jackson, Lisa Gardner and Heather Graham Pozzessere. Then I wondered down to another section where I found some more provocative books. They had a lot of erotica books. One huge volume stood out: The Kama Sutra.

“Why aren’t you reading that at home in peace and quiet?” The woman glanced at me over the rim of her glass, her eyes a piercing green that seemed to reflect the neon lights flashing around us. “The noise helps,” she replied, taking a sip of her drink. “It reminds me that reality is always there, no matter how much I try to escape into fiction.” I tilted my head, curious. “What’s the book about?” She glanced at the cover, running her finger over the worn edges before answering. “It’s about a woman who was reborn to get revenge on her cheating husband. He betrayed her, and in her second life, she’s determined to make him pay.”

I giggled, flipping the pages of the book I was reading, when the door of my room pulled open and a woman walked in. She was dressed in a sophisticated and elegant way. Her brown hair was tied up in a tight bun with little to no makeup on her face.
