Blackwood’s voice was as smooth and authoritative as ever. The concierge’s polite smile faltered. She hesitated, flicking her gaze toward the screen in front of her before carefully clearing her throat. "Sir, there seems to have been a mix-up…" A long pause. Irene suddenly felt a chill crawl up her spine. The woman continued hesitantly, "Only one room was reserved under your name. We’re currently fully booked due to the business conference. Unfortunately, there are no other available rooms at the moment." Silence.

Only a few warriors were behind us but we caught up to the rest of our group easily. "So we have two limos and an SUV to get to the hotel which is about 15 minutes from the pack lands. Alpha Evan offered us rooms at the pack house but I thought it would be better to have our own space plus the pack house will be lousy with other packs coming in for the wedding. This seemed like a safer option." Skol explained as we walked to the exit.

"I am calling from the ice rink. About your wedding tomorrow." My stomach dropped. "Is there a problem?" "There has been a conflict with your reservation. Double booking. We have another event scheduled for the same time." "What? How is that possible? We booked months ago. Paid deposit." "I know. There was clerical error. And I am so sorry. But we have corporate event booked for tomorrow evening. They reserved the space a year ago." "Then why did you let us book it?" "Mistake on our end. New staff member did not check the system properly. We take full responsibility."

New Year's Day was too far away and I could not sit in this house for another week pretending I was fine. I clicked on manage booking and selected an earlier date. Three days from now. The page loaded and I waited. (This booking is not eligible for date changes. To travel on a different date please purchase a new ticket.) I stared at the screen. Fine. New ticket then. I searched the available flights. Every single one was fully booked. I clicked through four different dates, three different departure times, even considered a connecting flight through Dallas just to get out faster. All of it. Fully booked.

She clicked a few more times, biting her lip before finally looking up at us with pure panic written all over her face. "Mr. Black, I am so incredibly sorry," she said nervously. "There has been a glitch with the reservation system and we only have one room booked under your name. Because of the international commerce conference, the hotel is completely full tonight so we can't get you another room."

By late afternoon, my phone buzzed again. This time, it wasn’t an unknown number. It was the club. I stepped into an empty stairwell before opening the message. Please confirm your availability for tonight. No explanation. No apology. No acknowledgment that the booking shouldn’t exist. I typed back slowly, I already have a booking. The reply came faster than I expected. Yes. That is the one. My chest tightened. There was no spacing window, I wrote. That’s against policy. Three dots appeared. Disappeared and appeared again.

As the receptionist checked him in, she looked between us, clearly thinking. Then she spoke cautiously. “Sir… this may sound unusual, but the suite you booked has two completely separate bedrooms. Your second guest hasn’t checked in, and we are fully booked tonight because of the medical conference in the city.” The man frowned. “So?” She lowered her voice. “ We are fully booked for tonight, and we can’t leave this young stranded.” His cold gaze shifted toward me.
