Before I could reply, Brook Owen approached our sector, his dark dress uniform immaculate, accompanied by Corrie Bates. "Accept this tribute for your ascension cycle, Chika," Brook said, presenting a heavy cedar box carved with the Whitmore crest. "My thanks," I muttered, passing the box to a waiting enforcer without looking at it.

‘And you’ve not checked the others, yet, so just chill. I dropped the books I was clutching to my chest on the other box, as quick as the wind but also with gentility so I wouldn’t wrinkle any of them, and I examined the other contents of the opened one before me. As I hoped, they were all books written by April Dove.

“You were both into the same woman?” “Yeah.” Jax walked over to Mia’s shelf and touched some of the books. On the two bottom shelves, heavy, leather volumes crowded the space. Most of them had legal mumbo jumbo words written in gold. In the middle shelves, romances and mysteries stacked the level. Many of the covers appeared worn and torn at the edges. “It all started off as a game. My brother and I liked to pick a gorgeous woman and do a little healthy gamble for her panties.”

Sarah looked proudly announcing the opening of her shop soon which Sarah supported because the moon goddess knew Clara would not be able to go as far as boost for herself. I was trying to figure out in my mind what to do next as I slipped on the matching shoes Clara had put together for me white with black lace and red small gemstones around. I looked up to see the five priestesses I had become so close to approaching and smiling nervously. “What was it?” I started looking myself over thinking I had something a miss. I then saw Caroline holding a small box. I followed her hand as she extended. “We found these and it took us a moment to realize what they were.”

That night, as Alessia lay in Luca's arms, her body finally surrendering to sleep, the replica box rested on the nightstand. Its edges glowed faintly under the moonlight, a shimmer invisible to the ordinary eye. The box trembled. Slowly, without touch, the lid creaked open. Inside, where nothing should have been… lay a single torn page of the Black Book. Its ink pulsed like living blood. And in a voice only Alessia could hear, even in her dreams, it whispered: "The wrong box was always the right one"......

I walked over and opened the first one. It held a selection of fiction and nonfiction. I found a book about Roman mythology and another called On War by Carl von Clausewitz. I put on the buds of my earphones and let the beat guide me through. I decided to take the usual lane I take when I go jogging. I don't always run outside, although I enjoy it. I just don't like to run around in public. I usually run on the treadmill watching the news or Kickbox in the basement with Chase. Or sometimes, when I'm too stressed, I take all the physical exercise I can in the basement gym—boxing, Krav Maga and even shooting. I love shooting like a kid loves candy. I'm good at it—no! I am the best at it.

I have now come to the end of book one of my Cursed by the gods series. It has been a long journey I'm not gonna lie. I lost commitment along the way of writing this book, lost inspiration, even changed the plan I initially had for it. I am really glad that I got to finish it and if you stayed till the end I just want to say thank you for even choosing this book in the first place. I will start with the second book as soon as possible and do my best to make that one better. But as my fingers traced the cover, the side of me that wanted to keep them won. Six novels. All from my favorite authors. How did he know? The thought sat uncomfortably in my mind as I gathered the empty packaging, along with the designer bag, and carried them straight outside. I dumped them into the hallway, shutting the door more gently this time.
