Theresa was old enough to have experience, but looked young enough to please Salem’s eyes—two key requirements for a housekeeper in his home. “Where is Salem now?” I asked. A good feeding would soothe my nerves. “He’s not at home, my lady. I couldn’t tell you.” Grumbling, I headed to Salem’s library. Perhaps he had a book I could entertain myself with. Once there, I found a book lying open on a desk. It was titled Mythic Bloodlines: Lost & Fabled Lilitu. Curious, I studied an illustration on the open page. It depicted a trio of strange-looking women, just like the ones Salem had been painting all this time. The accompanying text stated:

His door was locked but I punched a hole through the door, turning open the knob. We rushed in and I found Lyle sprawled on the floor in shorts, he was covered up in sweats and his heartbeat was fast. I wondered how I hadn't noticed this, his pupils had dilated completely and he grunted, clutching his head tight, as he kept calling Freya. "What is going on?" Byron asked, confused. "I don't know" I was as confused as he was. We both caught the whiff of a familiar scent and I saw a small sized bottle on the floor, I took it up and sniffed. Lyle groaned as his wolf struggled to break free and ease himself if the pain.

The threads glowed brighter as the soul’s light flickered, pulsing with an unstable rhythm. A sudden scream tore through the air. Shadows exploded upward—Wraiths, dozens of them, jagged and spindly, eyes white-hot with hunger, claws scraping the air. Their howls shook the Veil, making the stones shiver beneath Avery’s feet. “Move!” Kael shouted, spinning the scythe in a lethal arc. Shadow and fire collided with a screech. The Wraith lunged, recoiling only slightly as the blade tore through its form, but more surged forward. Avery stumbled backward, tether stretching dangerously.

He looked intimidating. Electric currents danced along the scythe like wild silver snakes that emanated a thrilling electrical energy. Victor was very pleased with the scythe and felt a tinge of gratitude for the mutated mechanical rat. After all, a tiny creature like that managed to drop such a massive weapon. It was quite a feat. Although the war scythe was merely fine-grade, Victor was content. He knew that getting a piece of fine-grade equipment at the start of the apocalypse was already a massive stroke of luck.

I step to the right, to the left and backwards as if I’m dancing as I dodge the lasers and the few I couldn’t dodge, I use my Death Scythe to deflect it “How long are you going to keep that up?” “As long as it takes to wear you the fuck out” She drops down in front of me with speed and shoots a large laser beam at me. I use my scythe to shield myself from the laser. The impact slowly push me back as she keeps increasing the strength of the laser trying to burn through my scythe

It's hard to focus without her, but I lead Axar into the small library with me as I begin to search. Having been alive for so long I've acquired many books and ancient pieces of literature. Some are in immaculate shape, others are torn segments and several pages, barely tethered together by bits of spine. Many of these are family heirlooms as well, handwritten and handed down to future generations for guidance. Some are my own notes and contacts, roughly scribed here and there and then stuffed back onto shelves. I find several books on banshees and a couple on cambions. I find some on death as well, and I stack it into my arms with the rest the pile. "Take this one too." Axar softly suggest

He left, and I was alone with the quiet and the heavy book. I slid it closer, its stiff cover groaning in protest. The first page I turned to held a chillingly precise ink illustration of a "Silent Scourge." The text described a skeletal horror with unnervingly long, scythe-like claws. Though deaf, it could sense the faintest whisper of mana, possessed blinding speed, and had vision that far surpassed any mortal's.

Then, to the right, and at the end of a long row of books, one book jutted out from the shelf. I pulled it out. It didn’t have a name. It was a leather-bound volume, and its cover had a skeletal hand clutching a wilting rose. I opened the book, skimming through the pages. My stomach turned at some of the rituals inside. Selene was too arrogant, too vein, to resort to grave robbing, and there would be no need to stitch me together if her plan was to take over people’s bodies as she had before. The Binding.
