"What book did you have in mind?" Emma's shoulders relax. "What kind of stories do you like?" "Whatever is fine." "Fantasy it is." Emma turns around to face me, three books in her hands, and drops to her knees. She's way too close for comfort but I don't comment on it. She lays the books out over my lap then taps the first one. "Trolls?" She taps the second one. "Mermaids?" Then taps the third one. "Or witches?" Her finger remains on the third book and she stares into my eyes.

"I would love to see you try, bro." What was that scent? I brought my nose close to Phoenix, going on my tiptoes, took a long sniff and sighed. "You smell nice." His face went red. I had no idea why. "Uh...Okay. Thanks, I guess." Alec cleared his throat. "In all seriousness, we were just talking about mermaids. I'm so fascinated by mythical creatures. Did you know that more than eighty percent of the world's oceans have been undiscovered? Imagine if they did some serious underwater researches, they may come across merfolks. Who knows there are probably some beautiful mermaids down there. Blue could totally look like one."

With my strength returned to me and my magic intact, I speed read the entire eight-hundred-page ancient book -with one-hundred percent retention- within a matter of minutes. “I’m ready,” I said as I closed the book and tucked it under my arm as best I could. “Really?” she said as she heaved herself from the chair. “That was barely worth the effort of relaxing.” “I found a spell to bind Morena’s powers. I really feel that, if we bind her, beating Bartholomew will be like child’s play,” I said. “What about the aliens he works with?” Abigail said. “I don’t believe there are any,” I replied. “I think that was a ruse to take our focus off magic.”

From there the mermaids eagerly retrieved their prey and carted him to the sandbar to feed on his fear. "By the time this is over, those pirates are going to beg to be arrested," Devrim realized. He had been under the merfolk's spell. It was not fun. The Emperor finished his task and cleared out the rest of the pirates. His small but tenacious crew had taken out hundreds of pirates already without any loss on their part. That feat in itself seemed impossible. 'Well, we do have some magical help. That has to count for something,' Devrim corrected himself.

The Good Witch thanked her for telling her and then she walked over to the fireplace and grabbed a strange looking shell. “What's that?” “It's a magical item that allows you to communicate with mermaids.” “Mermaids!” Isabella said in excitement. “Yes, mermaids.” “They’re real?” Her dad said in disbelief. “But of course they are. You believe in fairies but not mermaids. Silly man. Just follow me.”

I could breathe. It was like a wave of magic sweeping over me. I gasped, drawing in a breath as if I were standing on land, the water no longer suffocating me. The mermaids, these ethereal beings, had somehow breathed life back into me with their touch, their strange and otherworldly kisses. Their glowing eyes watched me, intense and unreadable, as they circled around me like predators in the deep.

“But if anyone outside the Mage Tower understands curses and artifacts like these, it would be them.” His fingers slowly closed around the earring before slipping it into a small leather pouch. “And if reaching the Sacred Land is beyond our reach…” He looked ahead, already thinking several steps ahead. “…perhaps we should consider the mermaids.” Sylas raised an eyebrow. “The mermaids?” Carlisle nodded. “They’ve existed just as long as the other ancient races. Their archives are older than most kingdoms, and they preserve knowledge differently from us. There’s always a chance they’ve encountered blood stones before.”

“I have a library here you are welcome to read anything you like, I can show you.” It couldn’t hurt to look and I was curious what kind of books would be in a mermaid library. “What do you know about the ceremony we have to complete before we are 25?” I asked. “Why don’t you worry about living through this, you still have a few years left to worry about that.” We get to the library and rows of shelves full of clamshells carved the glass walls. Their were children having a book read to them in the corner. “I think the book your going to want to read is on that shelf somewhere” he pointed.

That day, the sea was calm and bright above, but beneath the surface, the waters churned with strange, ominous power. Still, I never once experienced the torment I had in my last life. I gave birth swiftly to three healthy, black-finned mer-babies. When the Mer-King heard the news, he was overjoyed. He sent over several more chests of gold and silver and personally hosted a grand banquet in my honor. All the princes and princess-consorts looked at me with undisguised envy.
