The luxurious private chalet high in the Aspen mountains was buried under fresh powder snow, surrounded by towering pines and silent peaks. Inside, the massive stone fireplace roared, filling the open space with the crackle of burning logs and the rich scent of mulled wine and pine resin. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the moonlit snowy landscape, while the cool mountain air seeped through subtle gaps, creating sharp contrasts with the blazing heat.

Waverly took off her shoes and jogged up the entryway stairs to her room, where she grabbed a book and blanket before heading back down to the living room. After he left, I went back to writing my book. I moved from one spot of the mountain to the other while collecting different herbs and flowers. When I felt hungry, I took out the food that Mei packed for me. I continued to write and write until the sun went down and I could no longer see the paper in front of me. I packed up my stuff and went back to where my horse was tied to. It was dark and I was having trouble navigating out of the mountains so I took it slow and I had my bow ready in case of any bandits or wild animals.

I grab the handles on either side, walking up the small mountain as I had planned hours earlier. The two-foot-tall pile wobbles and nearly collapses beneath me, but I grab the windowsill before it gives in to gravity. Propelling myself upward, my butt hits the ledge, letting my backpack swing under me from my grip on it. Pulling on the handles, I force it up to my current altitude. I turn, my feet now dangling over the edge, outward as I pack the binders and books into my bag.
