She parked on a side street and walked down Main Street to the large, red brick building. The bookstore was an old building on the corner of Main Street and Oak Lane in the heart of downtown Devonsville. A family-owned Italian restaurant sat to the right, and a ice cream shoppe to the left. Everything was decorated for the holidays. Christmas-tree lights sparkled in the windows over carefully arranged books and gift ideas. The door chimed softly as she walked inside. The soft scent of paper and books mingled with fresh coffee and right out of the oven chocolate chip cookies. It was the smell of home. She took a deep breath in and smiled, feeling content.

“You can choose any book you like, and you can read some of them here. We can stay until midnight.” She used to do that too—just linger in the bookstore and read with coffee. The bookstore was also a café, with lounges for customers to settle into. “Good afternoon, Mr. Thorne, Miss Vander,” the store manager greeted, guiding them to the rows of bookshelves. They wandered through the shelves together, searching for books they wanted to buy. “Oh, God. I lost my copy of this book,” Serena said, grabbing a novel. When she turned into the next aisle, her eyes gleamed. “These are the latest textbooks on artificial intelligence. I need this.”

The kind of place where everyone knows everyone. "Why are we here?" I asked as we parked on the main street. "You will see." He led me to a small bookstore tucked between a coffee shop and an antique store. The sign above the door said 'Moonlight Books' and through the window I could see shelves packed with old volumes. It was not long before she was at her favorite bookstore. Entering the quaint bookstore on the corner, Kayla breathed in the familiar scent of paper and ink. She meandered through the aisles, trailing her fingers along the bindings, searching for the perfect escape from reality.

“Tuesday nights. The Spined Fox bookstore. We read everything from literary fiction to trashy romance. No judgment.” I took the flyer. “I’ll think about it.” “Don’t think. Just come.” I came.
