There was a leather couch in the corner, a bar cart with expensive-looking bottles of whiskey, and a window that overlooked the estate grounds. It was the kind of room that screamed power and control. The kind of room that belonged to a man like Jonathan Hart. I walked over to the bookshelves, running my fingers along the spines. Most of them were business books, biographies of CEOs and politicians, a few on philosophy. Then I noticed something odd. One of the shelves looked… different. Like it didn’t quite sit flush with the wall. I reached out and pressed against it gently. There was a soft click, and the shelf swung inward.

The air was heavy with the scent of aged papers, and leather-bound books that had imprinted words of inks that could barely be erased on them. There is a huge window by the left corner of the room with a beautiful view of a garden and the woods behind the main pack house. The large desk stood back with a magnificent black leather chair behind it, one that looked like it was made to fit a king. There were two smaller chairs at the opposite side of the desk and there's one long sofa at the right side of the room set in front of a large book shelf that housed maybe hundreds of books. The couch has a small table beside it that was holding a few bottles of liquor and closed glasses. It looked like the perfect spot to get lost in to the pages of the book for an entire day.

I let my eyes wander round the room for the nth time, completely zoning them out. The study was carefully arranged in its decor. There were floor-to-ceiling bookshelves lining one wall, complete with a sliding ladder. A large oak desk sits near a tall window, organized with files, documents and a freshly brewed cup of tea. A cozy wingback chair in the corner, paired with a side table, invites quiet reading, while potted green plants and soft curtains add life and light. Framed artwork and notes on the walls complete the space, blending function with charm.

I felt rested and calm now, so I got off the bed and started making my way with Romy to the library. When we get there, it looks like a library from a classic black-and-white movie. The bookshelves were built-ins with thick mahogany columns carved between them. The shelves went from the floor to the ceiling, and there were those moveable ladders to get to the higher shelves. At the end of the library was a large fireplace. On each side was a floor-to-ceiling window with dark green curtains that hung from golden rods. We came back to the living room and kitchen where he twirled in the space. “Now! Jordy!” Basil snapped his fingers. “The books!” His assistant came forward, pulling out four different books, thick enormous books and basically slammed them down on the kitchen counter. Walking over, I peered at them. Basil came up behind me. “There is a book for bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms, living room and lounge, and outdoor spaces. Look and show me what jumps out at you.” I nodded. Sitting down, I opened up the bedroom book first. Flipping through the pages, I stopped about the fifteen pages in.

I know we'd talked a little about what we'd do with it, but we'd never actually decided. I walked into the room and smelled the distinct smell of books.
